First of all I do think those statistics are outdated. Secondly, I assume that brownexile meant Siem Reap Town as opposed to the whole province.Lucky Lucan wrote:Siem Reap is one of the poorest provinces in the country.brownexile wrote:
They are more cheerful in Siem Reap, probably because of the constant flow of tourists and better economic conditions.

That is normal Riverside business etiquette, unfortunately. You can get used to it or you can plot your escape however, I have to ask, are they friendlier in Vietnam?simon44 wrote:Why are the staff in the so-called, happy pizza restaurants on PP riverside so fcuking miserable?
FFS, they remind me of ex #2...
Nothing but unsmiling, glowering faces from both genders!
Is this normal for PP restaurant staff, or a special service provided just for me?

I don't know about the happy pizza places in particular, but I have found most waitresses along the riverside to be very smiley and pleasant, despite their long hours and reportedly low pay.Captain Bonez wrote:You probably wouldn't be a beam of sunshine everyday if you had to work in some crummy restaurant watching endless backpackers take selfies with a fucking pizza day in day out for most likely less than $200 a month.simon44 wrote:Why are the staff in the so-called, happy pizza restaurants on PP riverside so fcuking miserable?

Maybe the typical happy pizza customers are not reasonable tippers.

What did the leper say to the hooker after his BJ.
Keep the tip.

I am not user "brownexile"Miguelito wrote:Interesting perspective Harold, I mean brownexile. How do they treat brown people?brownexile wrote:It's normal in 80% of the places in this country except in Siem Reap. At first I thought that it may be a race thing but no, they are just as sad, miserable and aloof when dealing with white people too. Come to think of it, so are most of you white people who live here (the customers). White proprietors and staff (including Russians) are friendlier on average- as they're probably delusional.
Why are you insinuating that I am "brownexile"?
Funny, I've always found the Viets friendly enough. Perhaps it's a result of my radiating positivity wherever I go. On my last trip in July, the girl who checked me in spotted on my passport that it was my birthday and, much to my embarrassment, arranged a surprise cake for me,. That was a run of the mill mid-range hotel in D1 Saigon.Hanno wrote:Not on the tourist trail.Lex47 wrote:That is normal Riverside business etiquette, unfortunately. My posts are just jokes, maybe they're rude, offensive, and politically incorrect. They're not my opinion, viewpoint, idea, or judgement, but they're just fucking jokes so lighten up.
Swap out the Subway for Jolibee and you have your average Pinoy office celebration.........

It was far far worse than that. I had suspected that she was planning something, but thought I had dodged it by going out on an all day bender and not returning till about 2am. Not so. Next day I was in the dining room quietly enjoying my ferocious hangover and waiting for my omelette, when the lights were dimmed and in they came with the cake, singing happy birthday. It was very sweet of them but I was traveling alone, so as you can imagine felt like a bit of lemon with this huge cake plonked in front of me. Fortunately there were a few families with kids so I instructed a waitress to carve it up and share amongst my fellow inmates.
It was a lovely cake and I would have taken a photo had I not been fleeced of my phone along with a tidy amount of cash by a taxi driver the night before.
