first time i ever had to register a sim with passport was in India aprx 7 years ago. other than that, i think Cambodia has been the only other place. not been anywhere but here for the last few years though. does it show. anyway it will probably end up being like the recent smoking ban.Khmerhamster wrote:You're possibly right but that is a tangential argument. Can you legally buy phones and use them in other countries without registering them to your name first?

I refuse to go out with nothing more than a whimper followed by a small farting sound and a shit stain on my bed sheets..
Just thought I'd share that with you.

I only read the OP. Your phone will be inactived if you dont use it for 1-2 months depending on the telecom company. The only advantage to register with your name is you can get your number back if you ever lose it as the OP pointed. But I still find it hard to believe some random would want to take your/her number after a short period of not using.

Are you sure this is right? To buy a phone on contract you need at least 2 proof of id's - I know this is in part to undertake a credit check but I assumed it was sim registration too.Abou-Gor wrote:sorry, i meant with passport or other id. was no prob refusing in the uk except when you buy tv'sscoffer wrote:Abou-Gor wrote:first time i ever had to register a sim was in India aprx 7 years ago. other than that, i think Cambodia has been the only other place. not been anywhere but here for the last few years though. does it show. anyway it will probably end up being like the recent smoking ban.Khmerhamster wrote:You're possibly right but that is a tangential argument. Can you buy and use a UK pay as you go without registration / ID checks?
I didn't think you could.

you can easily get a Smart and Metfone SIM from phone shops for 1 and 2 bucks with no ID required. But i dont get the issue getting your finger printed at immigration. It could easily get cleaned with a dip on a 50 cents bleach, and/or unless you are a pussy.

Most (70%) SIM cards were sold unregistered. The registration order was issued by the police in 2015.whiskyfrommekong wrote:They needed passports to buy sims back in PP in 2010

He added that 70 per cent of the 20 million or so SIM cards in use in Cambodia, where many residents own more than one, have no ID attached to them, meaning as many as 14 million phone numbers could be discontinued.
