Hey pals,
I'm sending this message for two reasons: One of them is for letting you guys know I'm sending over the new version of the music video. I'd love to get some feedback from you both, as you guys are crucial parts of this project. The other reason is to try to come to a reasonable deal between both sides as we all see how important this video is for everyone involved!
I understand both sides, believe me. A part of me totally agrees with Jonathan and would like to keep the video as it is - showing off some hardcore stuff even because that's the point with this video, right? That's why only a few people is actually involved with it - it's risky and tricky. We're walking the line, as Chris says. With or without AK's face in it, it's still a daring video for all that we show in it.
And the other part of me understands the concerning of Chris to put this video right not to cause mega troubles to him and to his group - we definitely would like that of course. We want KROM to keep it going and growing wider and wider, as well as we want Jonathan's AMAZING pictures to be viewed by as many people as possible, gathering different reactions and exposing the truth worldwide. And, of course, I'd love to show my editing work because... man... I poured so much effort into this to make justice to the high quality of the song and pictures - to try to be at the same level of you guys. It's such a honor. This one represents A LOT to me as I can clearly see how much I improved since "Taliban Man". I believe this video can open some doors to all of us.
This video was made in collaboration between 3 talented and daring men engaged in putting out almost a journalistic video that came to be something that DESERVES to be watched by as many people as possible for MANY reasons! Don't you guys agree?
* Jonathan's pictures are ABSOLUTELY stunning: The aesthetics, shadows and lights, contrasts, themes, angles, image compositions are just sensational!! A work of dedication, passion, talent and guts!!
* Chris's vocals is as haunting the as the song needs it to be. It has anything to do with the pictures, they complement each other beautifully!! Such a damn GREAT song you made, pal!! It's moody, it's harsh, it's depressive... it's all it needs to be!!
* And me, here. I may not be as experienced and as sensational as you mates are but I swear I did my best to make the video editing as great as the pictures and music are.
Having said all that, I hope you guys understand the potential of this video. Also I'd like to stress the social and political importance of this project, no one did this before (I suppose) and since we took the risk of doing it and since it's done, let's spread it like virus! We can make the difference, it's a wonderful and brave job the world needs to know! Internet is here to help us. Plus there's ABC interest; the Grammy indications... good things are coming and that's why, in my humble opinion, we should keep it going!!
I say we we should analyze the new version of the video before deciding anything else, what do you guys think? And after that we could discuss what stays and what comes back to what it was before. I'm pretty sure we can make the video pleases both sides equally!!
I really believe we have an AMAZING work of collaboration here, guys!! It needs to be watched by as many ppl as possible!! It would be really sad to have that just wasted as if it was never done...
I'm waiting on you feedback!
Sincerely,

yes, just sour grapes ( I also withdrew permission for a stabbed-in-the-foot journalist at the same time. He wasn't happy either):Lucky Lucan wrote:It's all just sour grapes. I worked with Chris over a long period of time. He worked hard for his organization, and had to deal with a whole load of BS over that time. You have no idea how many times we had to deal with huge obstructions, I don't see the point in explaining them here, many of you have a good understanding of how things work here, and could guess what hurdles I'm talking about.
Guess what kind of vehicle he gets around on? And has always done, outside of his brief role as an ambulance driver in 1997? It's called a motodop. He has always lived a frugal lifestyle, and if he does owe a bit in personal loans that doesn't need to be aired in public. Unless it's your absolute last resort I don't think it's fair to throw this dirty laundry all over the web.
As far as I'm concerned he's a stand up guy and has done a whole lot of good work here, if he is guilty of some minor discretion try and deal with it without being a snitching bitch.

Just back to wifi access yesterday as I'm traveling in provincial north China, and have just read these emails which are just plain nasty, and reinforce my decision not to work with you any more after your earlier disrespectful messages.
The tone is also insulting especially given the financial and other support I provided to your CNVLD wheelchair project, as well as funding a personal trip for you to Bangkok (money which I had originally intended to go to the disabled athletes), and giving you quite a lot of money over the past three years as you claim to be perpetually starving and penniless. I reckon we have collectively given you thousands of dollars in addition to the Apple MacBook and Sony cameras that I provided not to mention free and liberal use of my photos.
I'm now also aware that you have requested money from other people too. This perpetual request for money seems to be a successful business model in Cambodia.

I’ve known Chris Minko for a few years and consider him a friend. This is an abhorrent defamatory thread that is descending into a witch-hunt. If these accusations are proved unfounded, which I suspect they will be, Jonathan will have achieved his objective and Chris’ reputation will remain forever tarnished. It’s cunning, manipulative and downright cruel.
I don’t know Jonathan personally. I like his photography. But what are his motives here?
- If there is indeed an investigation underway, why would he feel the need to broadcast it so publicly? Surely you would allow justice to run its course, especially given that Chris no longer works in the sector.
- Publishing a personal email from a friend who has hit on hard times and is asking for your help is a bit shit in my opinion. Vindictive and very poor form, even if you have fallen out with them.
- The breakdown of money donated is vague at best. There’s nothing there to suggest that the first donation of $2000 for wheelchairs was misappropriated. There is also nothing to suggest that the subsequent donations or camera/laptop were misappropriated either. I imagine running an NGO in Cambodia would be bloody hard! Anyone donating to an NGO is aware that the staff of that NGO need to be paid. They have to eat, pay rent, live etc. I met Chris Minko in Battambang one time when he was there visiting the athletes – I saw first hand he was travelling by bus and his accommodation was modest – worth no more than $5 per night. Compare this to the outlandish shiny SUV’s packed full of overpaid International NGO staff swarming around Cambodia and staying in 5 Star accommodation. I know who I’d rather give my money to! I believe that the CEO’s of the larger charities are paid more than $500,000 per year. How is that not considered misappropriation of funds?
- Why on earth would Bart Vermeiren, the ‘Head of Mission’ for ICRC be revealing these sort of explosive details to someone who emails him claiming to be a donor. Surely this would be contrary to ICRC’s own strict code of conduct for their staff members and partners? At the very least it’s highly unprofessional and likely a sackable offence. If these emails are real, Bart must be madly back-peddling or perhaps he himself is meddling?
I’m staggered that the moderator of this thread would allow this rotten bile to continue. It should be deleted – at least until any so-called legal proceedings commence. At present this thread is breaking your own rules. Yes, free speech and heated discussion should be encouraged, but this is slander.
Oh, and Mr Crabtree – not everyone can appreciate good music or perhaps you feel personally threatened by the themes explored in the Neon Dark album?

Very valid points, and to clarify, I don't believe the wheelchair money was misappropriated as I saw the wheelchairs myself.Cobber from Oz wrote:I’ve known Chris Minko for a few years and consider him a friend. The cameras and laptop were personal gifts and not donations to CNVLD.
I also didn't refer to an 'investigation' in the emails I posted, and didn't refer to 'legal proceedings'.
Publishing an email from someone asking for financial help might very well be in poor form but it's one of many such emails & messages, and similar requests were made to others. I think it's 'poor form' to beg for money from friends who are not well off (I'm 67, don't have a house, TV or car etc), repeatedly claim that you haven't eaten for days, and keep on asking when you've stated that it's a financial burden to contribute any more.
Be staggered and outraged all you like. When the thread appeared I asked the OP if he could back up his claims and he has done so by reproducing emails which - to me at least - look genuine. As such it is a bonafide story and worthy of note, no matter how uncomfortable it might be for friends of the two main protagonists. 440 has no stake in the game and see no reason to intervene. The very act of deleting it would be taking a position, and that's not something I'm inclined to do. I understand that one of the English Language Dailies is also looking into the story. That reconfirms my view that we shouldn't delete it. I will keep monitoring it, though, to make sure no liberties are taken.Cobber from Oz wrote:

?
I'd also add that when two new posters sign up to the forum (not you) with the sole intention of sending me PMs threatening legal action if it's not deleted and bizarrely alluding to high level connections who can make life difficult for me, then I'm even less inclined to get involved. The Streisand Effect strikes again.

Whatever about knowing the people involved, I think it's a dick move to publish personal emails on a public forum. Especially when these are just vague allegations. There are better ways of dealing with these matters. If someone did, for example, misappropriation funds that you specifically wanted to be spent on some project, that's a bit cheeky. It should be explained to you. Yet the day to day expenses of running an org like that can involve juggling.
I feel that what we have here is a breakdown in communications, deal with it the best way you can, airing your dirty laundry in public is just going to lead to more animosity.Good.Luck.

Sincerely,

Seems like a fairly standard list of edits being requested.. What does this have to do with financial or moral misdeeds you're alleging?

Yeah, nah. Bachelops From Prague were actually pretty big news for a while. I saw them play in Perth once, not exactly my cup of Bonox, but there have been a lot worse bands. Fucking pretentious though, as I recall...Gilmore wrote:I was a little suspicious when. in another interview, he described himself as a former member of "legendary" Australian alternative band Bachelors from Prague. The band was far from legendary. They were very low profile and did not have much impact at all.

Yes. This.Lucky Lucan wrote:Whatever about knowing the people involved, I think it's a dick move to publish personal emails on a public forum.
Agree 100%.
Individuals emails in a chain can be taken way out of context. It's bad form to share private communications in a public forum.
In orgs like this there is often instance of robbing Peter to pay Paul in the short term for project deficits (for orgs with many simultaneous projects). Occasionally if the situation prevents it the project money doesn't get paid back. Many donors understand this as they understand that they give to the NGO and not to a specific project. Good comms is required to keep this sweet at times & this is where some NGO's fall down - often due to being overly busy.
Seriously, quit this childish smearing nonsense and get together over a beer.

The Streisand Effect strikes again.

Catching up on this thread now that names have come out. Can't say I am surprised.

Thanks for the reminder FR! The Bachelors from Prague were regulars on the Big Gig, which at the time was a fucking fantastic show! Birthplace of some of my favorite comedy acts: Jimeoin, the Scared little weird guys, and off course DAAS!
