Your mate Steve needs to stop getting so fucked up on cheap drugs and get his head out of his ass. What drugs are legal here anyway?marklatham wrote:My mate steve was here over xmas and he came up with an interesting theory about cambodia.
He thinks the whole country is an experiment on the effects of the legalising of drugs.
Lets look at the results-it is absolute chaos from the airport to the roads to the buildings to the politics.
It certainly seems that the americans were right.

Are you talking about the walking train wrecks who, in the late 1960s to early 1970s, were given the option to either enlist for the Vietnam war or participate in CIA sponsored drug experiments? Or the Contra-Cocaine crack wave participants who now reside in their delapidated trailers with their little home meth-labs over in the next county at Clear Lake?elreydelosmonos wrote:I agree with jimbob. I might buy it, except that most Khmers don't do drugs.
My hometown however, might fit that theory. At least it's a dumping point for CIA waste (as in those who signed up for the new experimental drugs). Nohgoot will back me up on this.
Since the average home price in your home town has been inching steadily towards the 1 million dollar mark, I'd have to say most of those folks are probably languishing miles away in Clear Lake or have drifted up to the poorest state in the union, Oregon.

The former. All the psyco-active drug testees wound up on the Russian River. Did you ever know of a guy named Crazy Richard? Can't remember who his brother was, supposedly some hall of fame quarterback. But Crazy Richard used to just wonder up and down the streets, stop suddenly, wander out into the street, stop again, look confused, and head back the way he came. He'd really freak out if someone called out his name. CIA reject for sure, man.

Lots of freaks made their way up there from Haight Ashbury in the late 60s. My family lived up in La Honda, in the Santa Cruz mountains, for a time; we were next to Ken Keasey's Merry Pranksters hangout. Lots of acid-tripping hippies prowling the forest at night, barking at the moon and behaving like stupid cunts. I was happy when we finally moved back to San Francisco.

Here in Phnom Penh the roads are being sorted with astonishing rapidity.NewsTalkAsia wrote:I have only one complaint about Cambodia: the roads, please, please, please fix those roads. The dude made some good points but made them in such a way as to lose all credibility. Describing a place as a 'shit hole' won't garner any fans.

Yeah, em, what were the good points? Are you sure you read the right article? Or would you consider this a good point?:NewsTalkAsia wrote: The dude made some good points but made them in such a way as to lose all credibility.
Lets face it, the guy has never been anywhere near Cambodia, he made it all up from some anecdote a backpacker told him.You don’t realize that the Royal Cambodian Army is under strict instructions never to open fire on passengers arriving at the airport.

Sorry, I know this post is a million years old, but I found it when searching for Crazy Richard. I never met him in person, but talked to him once on the phone. In the early 90s, I was caring for a friend & her pet wolf in NYC while she had surgery. Crazy Richard called asking for her one time when she was in the hospital. Several years later, my daughter's father told me of how he financed a trip in the 70s down the Amazon river with Crazy Richard. I've heard many stories. I know for a fact that he was in Timothy Leary's second closest circle of friends.elreydelosmonos wrote: ↑Sat Mar 24, 2007 9:50 pmThe former.
