Scobienz & Starkmonster, sorry to butt in on your conversation, but there you have it. I think, scobie, that we are conditioned to accept as a 'normal' state of things that 'those with power and wealth and influence naturally influence the world.'
I do not subscribe to that point of view. I believe that this is not a 'natural' way at all; it is one contrived to manipulate the 'peasants' into slavery - and to love it!
I don't.
How can it be any other way? Who should naturally hold more power and influence in the world? Please don't come back at me with some trite 'people' line. There is no such entity as 'the people'.
It can certainly be another way, simply because there is no one who should 'naturally hold more power and influence in the world' except those who will wield it responsibly, by which I mean in a way that will be beneficial to the wider good. Now, here comes a conundrum, which is central to the whole concept. It is this:
The whole idea of 'Western Civilisation' is based on a myth - the myth that a ruling class exists (elected, as some believe) to make conditions 'better' for all people. This myth is then built up, using religion, political theory (Marxism, Democracy & so on, if you like) and any other -ism which you may care to name, in order to maintain this illusion of a God or race of Gods
which is destined to rule.
I put these words in italics to emphasise the way in which Feudalism, Religion, Marxism, Democracy and so on are presented as infallible methods supposed to empower humanity, but which,
in fact, add intellectual, pseudo-scientific kudos to their inherent lies.
Oh, these fellows say, we need
Divine Right Rule, we need
Doom Paintings in churches to remind the peasants what will happen to them if they disobey ...
No, I say. We do not need administration; we do not need orders from some contrived 'Gods' and we do not need some berk with a ring of gold on his/her head to make rules for us; we do not need advisers or contrivers or bearers of so-called gifts (International aid - or aids - serums, anti-serums, injections, interjections) to organise us. We are quite capable of organising ourselves. We do not need a Mao Zedong, a Josef Stalin or a Pol Pot to organise ourselves. We simply need a realisation of collective responsibility and the sole aims of our communities to be those which leave no member behind. It really is that simple - we are all one; we all have our talents which count for nothing, individually, but count for a step when put together as a whole.
The robbers of our collective consciousness of responsibility need not fear retributions. They are free to leave. They can simply bugger off and leave us alone. They will find nothing for themselves to do here, anyway, once they are exposed.
