I think it's not in Phnom Penh, a 35 USD a month room in PP won't be like that, it'll be a 2 x 2m cubicle without windows inside a house on a floor high up, unless it's on the outskirts. If you click the map, it seems to be in Sihanoukville. If it is in Phnom Penh, it's probably somewhere in Pochentong or another remote new town, 10 or more km's out of town. For instance Pochentong is a 30-45 minutes trip by bicycle on one of the most polluted roads in Cambodia to get to the city center. Also one of the busiest roads.whiskyfrommekong wrote:

a good weeks work in dublin (400euro) i can pay a year up front in PP.
another week can buy me a years visa /gas /electric /internet pre paid moble.
another weeks work will supply coffee/ mama /cheap tobacco.
thats a years bear essentials for 15 days weeks work in the EU.
Maybe do your math again about the cost of one year in PP, and maybe also budget at least one visit to a doctor and some medication. You also might include some money for electrics and water, since your landlord will (over)charge you for that and it will be more expensive than back home in EU.
