People like Jamie have the right idea nowadays afaic. They spend as much time as they can out of their home country, but still go back and earn money, pay taxes and have resident status which allows them to continue to receive the benefits as outlined by GavinMac whilst also enjoying the freedom from the mind beating of the UK. The best of both worlds.
I remember speaking to a South African guy (black) many years ago during apartheid. He was living in London but was determined to go back to SA. I said I was surprised as don't they beat you just for being black there? He replied - yes they do physically, but bones mend. In the UK they beat you mentally.
