How will Cambodia be like in 10 years?
How will Cambodia be like in 10 years?
A simple but interesting questions for everybode living in the Kingdom of Wonders.
How do you think the country will change in the next ten years?
How will the capital look like? Will there be plenty of skyscrapers? How will the countryside look like? Will the situation on garbage improve? How will the society be like? Poorer and a larger gap between the lower and upper class? And how will politics change? Or won't they? How will the policy for barangs develop? Visa runs like Thailand?
Plenty of questions, some of them will influence our lifes in Cambodia. What do you think?

It takes generational change for a population to decide a direction, so I must say that a ten-year projection is insufficient.

Feel free to post your opinion about a future in 30 years. Or later.Caleb wrote:It takes generational change for a population to decide a direction, so I must say that a ten-year projection is insufficient.
2023 should be an interesting year, with a few years build up to it - initiated when Trump's policies finally kick in.
So, bright short term forecast for int investors everywhere, followed by thundery showers with a long range forecast of violent instability.

Later and much much later, the only part of PP showing above water will be Wat Phnom and will be occupied by several Chinese with AK47's.

I love Cambodia but in all honesty I am very pessimistic about the future of Cambodia.

After 15 years here, I am convinced that this country is (and has been since the early 1970s) a test run for the 'New Babylon'. Expect more concrete, more sand, more bricks, more flattening & more sacrifices. 'Blood will have blood,' they say and we shall see more of the same here.

Long term, I reckon it will be a satellite state of China. Maybe it was always this way.
Short to medium term; if you're an international gangster and need to launder your dough, KoW's paradise.

10 years will see the post HE period. The transition of power will not be smoothe. Will it come down to HE's chosen family successor vs high-ranking military person or some billionaire tycoons all vying for power? Will the most violent take all, the one to eliminate the competition the earliest? The US influence is quite weak, so I imagine China will decide the country's direction. There will be blood.

Yes, but the Thai junta saw that situation coming years in advance and quashed all dissent and opposition media early on. They had a plan in place. Plus, every Thai citizen genuinely adored the King. But sometime the Red Shirt/Yellow Shirt thing will arise again....whenever the next election takes place.Gin&Tonic wrote:That's what they said about the Thai king dying. i can't imagine Cambodia having a similar, well-executed transition plan.
