what kind of bugs can I expect to see in Cambodia, am I going to encounter baseball sized spiders that look like something out of a nightmare or any banana sized centipedes who hail from the seventh ring of hell!

seriously though what am I to expect because bugs really freak me out, also what can I do to counter them?

^^ More painful a bite than yer average scorpion here evidently.

Anyway, to me, in a way, the most annoying bugs here (apart from Tuktuk drivers) are the sand flies. Itchy focking bites that can last for days.

They are everywhere. They form gangs and terrorise neighbourhoods.

Vampire nocturnal moths - they fly as helicopters and have 6mm long proboscis, with which they are able to pierce the skin, both of elephant() and human, and feed on blood up to 50minutes (while you sleep). Generally, not very painful.
If you use mosquito net over the bed - which I would suggest to use in any case to protect against insects and, yes , rats - then you generally safe.

The large spiders crawling across my bed freak me out, but my lady is not afraid, she just scoops them up and takes them outside. So, I thought they were harmless and thought to man up, face my fears. I tried it, and the thing bit me and put me in the hospital for three weeks.

The problem with the world is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

PPP, what sort of spider was that and the symptoms?
I had a huge huntsman spider back in Oz, actually a few of them in my house and it cast a shadow when it walked, snakes/spiders don't scare me much as I was bought up with them, but 3 weeks in hospital?
