FFS, "evidence the boy was raped"...very very depressing, hate this, sick.
Never mind
Allegedly the Dutch guy tried to snatch two kids from Sihanoukvilkle last year, one Vietnamese kid, and one Khmer kid from near the airport.
He was arrested but released after paying a 'fine'.

I assume PPU is some sort of police investigative unit. Must be awful duty, but somebody has to do it.Stramash wrote:Indeed, yet a profession much maligned.David L wrote:My dear cousin Caroline was a social worker for child protective services in my home state, dealing with abused and neglected children. Intervening is just the start, helping the child deal with the aftermath is a long, arduous and painful process. Most victims never really recover.
It takes a really special person to take that up as a profession.
In my previous life I supervised and wrote reports on sex offenders. I had to read all the transcripts of their offences and let's just say I was glad to always have whisky or whiskey at home.
Supervising was worse; part of the (internationally accepted) risk assessment process involves asking the offenders about how often they masturbate and what they thought of. Suffice to say some of the sick fucks could be quite descriptive.
But I only had to read about them and talk to them. That job gave me (for the first time ever) respect for my police colleagues in the PPU; they had to look at any evidence including photos and videos. There was a very good reason that they usually only worked a year or so in the PPU before rotating out.
Those guys get very little recognition. I doff my cap to them all.
Cops and social workers have to deal with matters that people like me don't like to think about.
Social workers, police and parole/probation officers, are seriously under-valued. I admire you for your career choice. All I did was build highways and bridges.
If you don't know where you're going, any road takes you there.
Sorry, yes, in UK, the PPU is public protection unit. Basically they deal with child abuse, rape, human trafficking etcDavid L wrote:I assume PPU is some sort of police investigative unit. I thought my job was hard but the guys (and gals) in the PPU went above and beyond.

I vaguely remember the story but do not remember who was involved. What is also kind of "bizarre" in this case ( and also the other recent case of the dutch paedo guy up in SR with the guesthouse ) is that these perps are seemingly busy sinking tens of thousands of dollars of their money into their local businesses whilst all the while leading a double perverted life. I mean...wouldn't you think they would just offend and be ready to skip the country with an escape plan, a packed bag and a wad of cash all ready to go ?
Hell no......let's forge on making like a respectable businessmen with websites and FBook and what have you in complete denial we will ever get busted and lose the lot !
I guess there is a good psychological explanation for this kind of behavior ?
