Expat Health Insurance in Cambodia - poll.
Expat Health Insurance in Cambodia - poll.
I was thinking it would be a good idea to collect some information on what companies posters/ lurkers are insured with here in Cambodia. I have recently wanted to try and find a reasonably priced health insurance that would cover ambulance, air evac, small moto, that I can afford and trust.
A lot of people here that are covered have it included with their jobs.
I'm really looking for people that have health insurance that earn around $1500 p.m., that can suggest an affordable policy that can be trusted.
If you have it, please post your annual premium, especially if a claim was successful.
A friend of mine was annually insured with World Nomads, which she took out while still in England, and successfully claimed on for a motorbike accident in Thailand. When renewal came up, she just renewed it online from Thailand. She made a subsequent successful claim for a joint problem that required surgery in that renewal year. They seem to be cheap and good. BUT, I'm still not 100% on what their residence rules are, so any further info would be good.
I have included the insurance companies I know of in the poll, but please post others if you can recommend any.
Below are the names' and site links of the companies I know that insure expats in Cambodia - plus World Nomads, which I'm not 100% about.

Forte

World Nomads

Obviously, if you had a problem with a claim, further info would be appreciated.

I used Mediplus, they covered over $80k in surgeries after a moto accident including medivac to Bangkok international. Now my company uses an international cover but I was happy with Mediplus.

If you are over 60 years old, do not trust any health insurance providor at all. They like to receive the yearly premium but to pay for legimitate claims is not their favorite procedure.
I was for many years insured my AETNA in Hong Kong (yearly premium to be paid between $3.500 and 5.500). After my bypass operation in 2012 they basically refused to pay claims because of "wrongful claim procedure". Only after I recruted a lawyer in Hong Kong, they paid within 2 days after received their letter (the lawyer cost me about UK$ 8.000). Within 3 days after payment they terminated our insurence partnership, which they can do according to their policy terms and conditions (I was over 65 years old at that time and most, may be all of the private insurance companies will offer only 1 year duration after that age).
Since 2012 I save a certain amount each year which is lower than the average early health insurance premium requested. I know its risky for a major problem, but I got one of my kidneys removed this year, paid out of my savings and saved 50% compared to the yearly insurance premium to be paid to them since I started to save on my own.
Be careful with health insurance companies, whoever they are, and try not to trust their promisses.
If you are in your 40ies, may be it will work out.

Can you remember what policy you bought, and the annual cost? Can one purchase it in Cambodia? All I can see is to enter a zip for the online quote.GMJS-440 wrote:I used Mediplus, they covered over $80k in surgeries after a moto accident including medivac to Bangkok international. World nomads is great for initial insurance, up to one year, and also if you are back and forth. Technically then, you are not ex-pat, you're a traveler. I made a claim once, it was a bit of back and forth to make sure I was covered before they rolled out the red carpet, but then, three days in the hospital, and no problems, even paid out of pocket to me direct afterwards.
The problem with the world is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?
I use Cigna Global. Haven't placed a claim with them yet (touch wood), but friends tell me they pay promptly and without fuss.
