One thing I have noticed is that the crowds that stand around taking pics of the dead and dying, are super quick to murder anyone seen as being remotely responsible for it. I guess in the end, people love the sound of breaking glass. Just so long as it isn't their glass being broken.

Joon... one of the most beautifully expressed compassionate loving things I've heard on this forum. Thank you for your openness and honesty.Joon wrote: I have to admit that it sort of resonates with me, but not in a gruesome traffic accident case. When my father died on his way to the hospital and he was just lying on the stretcher in the ambulance, I felt that I had to take photos of him, dead, because my mother, sisters and brothers were in France, and that maybe they would want to know or see how he was at the time. Also with hindsight, that was probably a way for me to not be all alone in that moment. That may give some elements of response to understand that particular behavior.

well, now that i think of it, things are slowly turning around. i mean, we hear stories about people chasing down thieves and hit and runnerrs all the time now. like the huawei guy who got caught because people chased him down. but the gore thing, i just think people just don't have the medical knowledge to help.

I think it's a part of it(lack of confidence at least)...and maybe a reluctance to be involved lest it complicates your life even further...people just don't have the medical knowledge to help
maybe not exactly as in that moment for joon but I do wonder whether some of this stuff reflects a kind of anxiety and helplessness about the shit and chaos going on...a way for me to not be all alone in that moment
I think people strive for justice and security and when they don't get it that's what happens...we hear stories about people chasing down thieves and hit and runnerrs all the time now
I think that's lucan auditioning for the KS vacancy...Fucking mashed up brains

Part of this gap-mouthed stupidity is due to the Buddhist fatalism than screws up people's heads here.
That, and the total absence of training in altruism and social responsibility.

Yeah, thanks for the translation ^, boozy.

The Moral of The Morbid
...To stare at macabre occurrences—this can lead to mere insensitivity, gawking for a cheap thrill; or it can result in stunned trauma, muteness before the horror. But in between these two extremes, morbid curiosity can sometimes inspire us to imagine ways to transform life's necessary darkness into luminous vision.

Well put. I think we have to remember the Khmer's usually have strict rules of behavior, most foreigners don't.Caleb wrote:Perhaps it's just a real-world recognition of the impermanence of all things.

One of those rules is to "Be super safe, or else." - over and over again the young hear that.
Then the young person finally sees evidence of all those warnings, and has to capture the moment reality visited them in their sheltered, insular lives.
I was horrified at first, too. But slaughterhouses are nearby, and the uneducated need a kick in the face to curb their dangerous urges (driving fast, drugs, crime, etc.)
I guess it's old-fashioned horror stories designed to scare "children" into good behavior.
Buddhism was broken here in 1975. So it's still regrowing.
