Overheard at a bar, a 60 year old talking about just being married to a Khmer. The conversation was loud enough to be heard by a few, so someone asked the obvious question...
'I thought westerners over 50 years of age couldn't marry a Khmer?'
'Oh, but you can, if your gay.' He then got up and left saying 'Well I'm off to see my husband.'
I didn't have a chance to ask him any details regarding the age limitation 'law' on gay marriage age with a Khmer but, I thought the same rules would apply to both sex's.
I'm not gay, or homophobic, just want to know if it's bullshit or not.
Over 50 gay marriage?

As far as I am aware gay marriage isnt recognize in Cambodia. However, there are many gay Germans in SR disguising as business owners...I could name but dont want to get my ass kick later down the road.
EVERYONE BOW DOWN TO HIS MAJESTIES phat kunthea™
I don't think they will be kicking your arse.
I've not heard of civil partnerships in Cambodia.

So Siem Reap is full of closet German homos then?
Fug me you learn something new every day.
What with disguising as business owners, are they forming some sort of resistance as we speak and planning a camp uprising.
"I don't care what the people are thinking, i ain't drunk i'm just drinking"
The government has stated that, though gay marriages are not legally recognised, gay couples are welcome to take part in unofficial wedding ceremonies. The guy you mention may have done that, but it is essentially a worthless exercise.

You've got to be kidding! I just spent a most lovely time in SR. Owner and husband both gay, has both male and female employees, not a muscled Khmer dude in sight. No different from any other place. Except for the weird finger scratching thing from the husband on first handshake.phat kunthea wrote: Guesthouse, hotel (management position), restaurants.
