Haiti and Cambodia: the same development model?
Just noticed that new factories in Haiti pay workers not so much per day, like 5 dollars or so... Anybody see any parallels between the advantage taken by the U.S. and France in Haiti, with similar or identical developments right here? Of course, you ought to... Anyway, this is just the tip of the globalization iceberg friends... Development agencies and private investment are hand in hand with this sort of old-fashioned imperialism, oh, sorry... I mean in more recent lingo, the domination of the poor of the world by those who have money and can do whatever they please... Hmmm?

Aren't you the guy who believes all Khmer women fantasize about having sex for money and that people who take opposite positions to yours are either with the CIA or multi-national companies?
In short, no, they are on different development pathways.

That's a pretty big assumption right there.Orichá wrote: Anyway... friends.
Word of advice, stop.
....Except that, with certain exceptions, the donor agencies have generally been Western while the garment factories have generally been owned by Chinese/Taiwanese etc. etc. You give far too much credence to the notion that donor agencies have a long term economic effect. They have very little, if any, positive long term economic effect - organised private investment does. Long term, by staying well past their sell-by date donor agencies merely succeed in fucking up the recipients' minds. They are also very good at catastrophically doing the wrong thing where they might actually have made a difference (eg. Rwanda).

You're an economic numpty. Do a little research on development economics and how an economy moves through the development cycle. Should these countries and their people just stick to subsistence farming..struggling at $2-2:50 a day? The factories offer a better income choice and you shouldn't judge people's individual economic decisions.Orichá wrote:Just noticed that new factories in Haiti pay workers not so much per day, like 5 dollars or so... I think we can definitively say Haiti and Cambodia are on different development pathways.
Haiti has gone to hell in a handbasket. Gangs now control the international airport.
