My understanding is people live well at$2000/mo. and above. Some survive at $600 or even less. (yes, survive) But, your offer soiunds like a great opportunity for adventure. I'd say take it for sure.
Best.
Great food and amazing Architecture can thrill your senses, but what matters most is the company you keep.

The problem with the world is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?
Central Market to University of Cambodia is just a few minutes in the morning against the traffic bar one or two small bottlenecks now that the flyovers are in. Nokor Lucky is 100m from Central Market and has 1 beds from about $500. It's not super plush but safe, clean and functional. There are a few serviced apartments the other side of Vattanac Tower which are plusher. All of these are a few minutes from life at Riverside. Good luck.

Great to hear. Thank you to everyone who contributed. Its nice to see there are a few "normal" people living in PP. After a couple Google searches, I was under the impression the city was exclusively populated by old drunks, criminals, and pedofiles. Encouraging to see otherwise!

Even old drunks, criminals, and pedophiles can give advice on traffic patterns and where to live comfortably on $46,000 per year. It's part of their charm.edumed wrote: Its nice to see there are a few "normal" people living in PP. Fucking stupid, blinkered post from someone who has clearly poorly researched the country and city. It's certainly not exclusively populated by old drunks, criminals and paedophiles.edumed wrote:Great to hear. Thank you to everyone who contributed. There are young drunks, chronic drug abusers of all ages, sexpats, cocksucking hipsters, wretched backpackers, teachers and certifiable lunatics living on the streets that make up the expat and foreign visitor "exclusivity".

There was a very intended "tongue-in-cheek" quality to my post. You're right, I have not researched Cambodia or Phnom Penh with great depth, yet. That's sort of the process I am currently in, and the reason why I am on this forum asking questions.

Mine also. You've come to an excellent site to ask questions and conduct research. Pretty much everything you could need to know, you'll get the answer here. Among other types of posts.edumed wrote:@bipolar bear

Nice looking place! Do you think it would be a problem getting to Riverside and south at off peak times? Looks like about 4 to 5 kilometers one way to Sihanouk Blvd.Mèo Đen wrote:Condos in Mekong Gardens Chroy Changvar start at around $500 and a two bedroom 101 sq m one is $800. There is a swimming pool, sauna, steam room and gym. They are fully serviced and equipped down to plates and cutlery. One good advantage of a condo over say a decent apartment is the immediate onsite maintenance and replacement of defective appliances. If a TV or microwave fails for example it is immediately replaced.
Down side is that they may be closing one of the twin bridges next year for repair which will cause some congestion. Also traffic has started to get pretty bad at certain times of the day all over the city so you may want to get a place close to where you work. There are plenty of places within your price range.

It's a good building that one. Actually I think the open plan studios like Meo Den has seem more spacious than the 2 bedders. The rooms in the latter are a bit boxy.
It's really not far into town at all and the views are great.
