what's the difference between Khmer and Western Calendar years?
Was wondering if any members of the board can explain the difference between the Khmer and Western (Gregorian) calendars. Last night the missus told me that she was 5 years older then what I thought her age to be. She said it was because she was counting in Khmer years! According to everyone around her she is 5 years more then calculated (from her birth year to current year). How are Khmer years calculated?
Don't worry, be happy.

The years are calculated as follows: When the Khmer woman first meets you, she will say she that is 22. Once you get invested in the relationship and buy her an engagement ring, she'll acknowledge she is 27 and chalk the earlier fib up to "calendar confusion."

5 years too big a gap. My ex's bro tried to play some numbers game to make himself look older. Be my elder type shit. I shot that down pretty quick. It might be a 2 because some count that first year as 1. And some count new year as age year. Like everyone is a year older once new years hit.

In the rural areas of many Asian countries, a person's age traditionally wasn't calculated from the day of their birth but from how many local New Years they had lived through. Thus, for example, a person could call themselves in all sincerity 18 years old but actually only be 17 and a fraction in age. As there as no leap year years in the Khmer calendar a five year difference is hard to explain however.

A disproportionate number of Cambodians celebrate their birthdays on January 1, as discussed here: January 1 birthdaysGreenMeat wrote:In the rural areas of many Asian countries, a person's age traditionally wasn't calculated from the day of their birth but from how many local New Years they had lived through. From the other thread:
We are looking forward to his full report...
GM won't rest until he samples all the hostesses in each city in each country...I was cozying up to a hostess at 11:45 p.m. on New Year's Eve and she announced "Tomorrow is my birthday."
About thirty minutes later, I was cozying up to a completely different hostess at a different bar at 12:15 a.m. on January 1, and she announced "Today is my birthday."
We are looking forward to his full report...

543-544 years difference.
Gregorian Calendar 2016 CE (January)
Buddhist Calendar 2559 BE (April)
Gavinmac may be right. Then again, Cambodians mature slower in Cambodia.
So, a 25-year old Cambodian may act like a 20-year old Westerners gal, for example.
The 27-year prompting may be a siren call to start having babies if you want that girl.
22-year old girls are a pain in the long term, unless you look like Justin Bieber or a Kpop star, haha.

My girlfriend just turned 30 in October, but according to her ID/passport her date of birth is January 3, 1990. That's because her parents put her in the family book as three years younger than she really was. I don't know why, maybe that was to put her in first grade when she was 8 years old.

Just cut them in two and count the rings.
I'm now beginning to think I've been had. New kid has been pulling an elaborate hoax for years.
These stories are just ridiculous.
And that was definitely logos in the photos with nursey, or whatever she's called now.
