The place is 800 a year now and they claim it is a discounted rate as the first month is free!!

Currently at superfit there is a promo...i THINK it is 500 for a year

Edit. I will check that out. It may be 500, discounted from 650, for only 6 mth, which is horrendously overpriced.

I approached The Place TK this week about the cost of a month's membership since the pool where we live has been drained due to the corona. They wanted 180 bucks. Glad I decided against it - wouldn't fancy my chances of successfully claiming a rebate.

In order to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport has requested (ordered?) all gyms across the country to suspend business from this date onward, until the epidemic is over.

The trick is to sign up for their ~$500/year KNY specials.

You’d have to go pretty much every day to make it worth $180/month.

Perhaps I'm a sucker, but I always paid like $650 a month even when signing up during special promotions.

Thing is I only need it for as long as the corona goes on. I'm optimistic that I'll have 'my pool' back within weeks.

Yes all gyms ordered closed earlier today.

As for the pool situation Slavedog, yes it’s annoying, especially as many hotels have either closed or stopped allowing outsiders. I’ve decided on a few staycations: from 10-20 April Baitong is offering any available room for $55. I got a suite on two different days, allowing me four days of pool and bar access. Penh House is also offering $49 rooms. Might do that one Sunday.

There are many very precious people on here who feel that their whole constitution would be ruined if they so much as touched the waters of the Tonle Sap or Mekong. I put it down to basic softness. :axe:

Considering all the hotel closures occurring (think you posted a list) that's sounds a tad optimistic

Don't be a sucker. They'll take your money and not mention the pool is closed.

We used to swim regularly in the mekong at "the beach" as we called it near Wat Svay Chrum over on The Areyk Sat side. It used to be a lovely spot to swim with a massive decades old Tamarind tree providing shade. I had to keep An eye on my then little kids though as the drop off was a bit steep. Also the trick was to be in and out before the farmers arrived with their herds to bathe the beasts as the water then became a bubbling mess of cow sweat, shit and piss.

It looks like Phnom Penh Sports Club might still be open. Any other gyms or gym-type establishments in Phnom Penh still open?
