The people you really OUGHT to avoid in Cambodia and SEA
Twatpackers, business cliques, patriots abroad, the culturally unaware and the culturally over-aware. Oh, and hipsters.
Stephen W Palmer takes a light-hearted look at the waifs, strays, misfits, and general cocktrumpets you really ought to have nothing to do with in Cambodia in a new front page article. It's enough to make you want to stay indoors for the rest of your life.

Nailed it... why on earth after reading this entertainingly funny article would any sane person want to come to SE Asia. There must be people that "don't" fit this narrative out there. Please... don't be shy... post something... I'm curious

Poor NJH gets his mug posted as the face of the 'temporary English teachers' segment of people you want to avoid in SE Asia. But I guess any publicity is good publicity in his view.

I reckon most 440 posters could fit nicely into at least one of all those categories. Good piece.
I know I'm unloveable. You don't have to tell me. I don't have much in my life, but take it - it's yours.
wow man.. I'm having a déjà vu experience with this article.
It wasn't funny the first time.
Nice try though

The only front page article I've read in years. Not bad and pretty spot on. I think we've all met these types before. I find it bizarre that the writer says The Patriot is often an Englishman as I've also noticed that myself. Anywhere in Asia, you're sure to find at least one expat bar draped in Union Jacks run by some English guy. It's as if the English come all the way out here on vacation, then wander into an exact replica of the local pub back home. Foty is always on and the patrons can freely complain about lack of real back bacon and that the local breakfast sausages don't taste exactly the same as in Chesterfield. Aussies tend to be a close second when it comes to being loud patriots. You'd assume Americans would be the worst of all, but weirdly enough they tend to be fairly reserved. The Patriot Englishman meanwhile always seems to be some working class dude wearing a wifebeater, a Liverpool tattoo on his calf and shit like that.
As for the hipster, I've stopped trying. Cambodia has changed tremendously in recent years. The cesspool which is Bassac lane is growing even more now, spilling out of the original orifice it was confined to and exposing the clique of cafe-racer riding douchebags with mustaches/beards, oversized 80s glasses and lumberjack shirts to neighbouring streets. Rum cocktail competitions and beard grooming accessories, fuck me. I can't even go to Luigi's anymore as the smell of their presence around the corner makes eating impossible. What's more worrying is that they're now seen moving around freely, slowly infecting other establishments with their puerile presence. I carry a face mask and hand sanitizer everywhere I go now lest I catch the virus and start watching obscure 80s movies and tight jeans.
Good fun read though.

Wouldn’t real lumberjacks be sleeping at night?
My posts are just jokes, maybe they're rude, offensive, and politically incorrect. They're not my opinion, viewpoint, idea, or judgement, but they're just fucking jokes so lighten up.
