Except for those who were on the ball and have already cancelled their original passports and applied for replacements.
This is the first case of mass passport theft that I can remember here. Anyone else? I have been to the immigration to extend my visa in 2003, they didn't want to do it - preferring me to go to a travel agent (patronage system?), eventually they gave me it and at the right price though. Don't bother trying that in Vietnam. The immigration visa dept just won't give you it - even though it's law. Only available at travel- agents.
Of course, it's the agency that took the passports to be renewed that's at fault. For being cheap dick-heads who thought it was a good idea to risk a person's passport on a fucking bus. Especially Virak Bunthiam.

Some of these comments are rediculous. Tuk tuk fish comes across as a racist asshole know-it-all. I've renewed visas a lot of ways here since 93. Can't say I ever waited in line. Vlk lost my passport. They have been open since 96. Call me naive.
I have also done this for 14 years with a receipt and no problems with the same travel agent in PP, paying on receipt of passport with new visa inserted.tuk-tukfish wrote:I go to a reputable travel agent in the capital where I am given a receipt for my document so that they are accountable in the event that something goes wrong. Not totally Khmer-proof but far better than adding another cog to the machine. Like, honestly, wtf do the majority of people who live in shitsville have to do that's SO important down there that they couldn't do in pp?kansaicanuck wrote:How do you get your visa renewals done? As I said before, I would rather do it myself if it is not too much trouble.tuk-tukfish wrote:I've done countless retarded things in the KOW but handing my passport to a pimply-faced Khmer courier to transport via bus transcends even my level of stupidity. Morons.
I'm usa and I simply don't worry about it. Just walk into the us embassy in pp for a quick theft report and I'm good to go with a replacement.
I am careful to keep a copy of the passport and my visa on my phone however should I need the numbers.
