Passport debacle
Very narky tonight Violet ?
Loosing ones passport is a serious problem for some citizens . It is enough of a hurdle even renewing a British passport now , the bullshit one would have to endure to get a replacement , and then to get a new visa , plus having to pay overstay , would be
Anyway , just thought I would bring it to the attention of anyone interested , and I think it will be in the PP post tomorrow .
Good night Violent .

not at all. just being misinterpreted but that's ok.
for the record, I have myself been in a position of having to replace a lost passport and birth certificate. I fail to understand why people are unable to fathom a person having empathy and practicality reside in the one body.
shrug.

A lot of citizens can't renew in PP, Ireland for one (Siagon is the nearest embassy), so fuck knows what they will do.
Who are these "agents" they mention? Are they individuals who do a bit of visa renewal on the side or is it just a couple of travel agents?
For the record I know Ana Travel use a dedicated driver to go up and do the paperwork and carries the passports. I also believe Motta do the same.
I've just been to the province (family) and my passport was on me or under my head the whole time. Now it's locked in my secure safe with the yard dog outside, security guard, CCTV and locked gate. Can't be too careful eh!

Immigration, if they had any tourist business sense, should waive the overstay fees and be rememebered well by many countries forever for that. Hard to pay for that kind of good word.

Or one can look on the bright side, as John Simpson did. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... rport.html

I reckon its a sign from God.
He is telling these 42 people who've had their passports stolen to forget their previous lives and forge a new existence in the brave new world known as Sihoukville

Wouldn't the travel agency at least have taken photocopies of the passports and applications first? I think that with the story confirmed, it will be as easy as it could ever be to replace a stolen passport. Inconvenient yes, but I think not too difficult.
The problem with the world is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?
https://www.cambodiadaily.com/news/tour ... cy-124680/About 50 tourists whose passports were stolen after being sent away for visa extensions last month were still in limbo on Monday despite a large travel agency reportedly agreeing to foot the bill for new documentation.
According to Chea Sokhum, a branch manager at bus company Virak Buntham, 50 passports were sent to VLK Travel in Sihanoukville from smaller agencies in the coastal town last month. VLK then passed them onto CPSTA, a logistics company, who arranged for the package to be taken to Phnom Penh on a Virak Buntham bus on January 22, Ms. Sokhum said.
The passports were then placed in a Virak Buntham office in Daun Penh district, but were stolen by “two scavengers” that night as a security guard napped, she said.
On Monday, 20 representatives of small travel agencies in Sihanoukville met with VLK, which agreed to foot the bill for issuing new documentation, said Keo Sreyrath, the owner of Otres Tour & Travel.
“I already settled it for the clients. I sent them to Phnom Penh to get new passports, and I will pay for all the expenses,” she said, adding that VLK would reimburse her.
VLK representatives declined to comment.
British backpacker James Lloyd, 22, who was among those whose passports were stolen, said he expected it would be a while before he could get new travel documents.
“We don’t know who is paying and what we’re going to pay for,” he said.
“We were going to leave Cambodia at the end of this month[to go] to Vietnam, me and my friend that I am with,” he said.
“Honestly, we will not be able to do that because it needs more than a month to come through.”

Why would they want to steal these? What is the value, where is the market?

If it was scavengers, which is most plausible, then they didn't want to steal passports. They had no idea what was inside the package.PorkPiePorn wrote:Why would they want to steal these? What is the value, where is the market?
I'm sure they were disappointed when they discovered it was passports.

The agents are responsible. They offered the service and dealt with the clients. They need to man up and assume responsibility. Pay what needs to be paid and get the ball rolling on replacements. Then they should seek compensation from the transport company.

Wouldn't they have this on CCTV? Crazy if not. Would be great if the police nail these thieves.

They are petty, opportunist thieves. The passports have been dumped or burned somewhere already. They are gone, only a remarkable stroke of fortune will see them returned - if the thieves dumped the box nearby.
Would be great if this was a 'wake up call' to security companies who provide guards who sleep most of the time.
