Passport debacle
Passport debacle
There is a huge shitfight going on in Sihanoukville , and in the capital , 42 passports have gone missing , expats , and visitors sending passports off to PP to have visas renewed , have all been left in limbo , pending action by the various agents , the transporter , embassies , and immigration .
I am surprised it hasn't made the press .

For everyone who had their passports stolen. I'm currently at the meeting at OC hotel with the agents and VLK Travel. 42 passports were stolen off the virak bus. They have a video of it. All agents pas their passports off to VLK so the responsibility falls on VLK as they chose how to transport passports. They are saying the will cover the cost of new passports, exit visas, and overstays plus transportation to PP. also they have already filed police reports in PP. The issue right now is who pays what. VLK wants the agents to pay 50% and the agents are arguing bc it really is not their fault. I'll keep you all posted. Keep a receipt of everything you buy/pay for while dealing with this.
Hello, guys! I am looking for others, who gave their passport to an agency and lost it. Besides me, there should be over 40 people without passports in Sihanoukville
PM me. We need to team up. Not only they lost it, they refuse to properly cover the expenses or just take basic care of client without passport and money in a foreign country.
If you won't contact me, at least, when u realize that they are avoiding responsibility and trying to ditch you, leave a review or a comment, to let others know. Don't just take it and go or they will keep on fucking ppl over and will never learn to take responsibility.
.
Liam MacKenzie They've arranged a bus to leave SHV tomorrow morning with everyone who's lost their passport. They're then taking you all to do a report in PP so their insurance can cover it.
Nb; this is just what I was told by Mien Mien. No idea of its accuracy.
Kolosov Artem I already went to PP this week. Signed the police report. And came back very unsatisfied with the results. They only paid me 80$ for passport and 20$ for one night in a hotel. When I said that my embassy tells me to stay in PP for almost a week, they said that it is my problem. This exactly why I am trying to get people together.
And we now have a group https://www.facebook.com/groups/1888144 ... cation=ufi

while I feel for the people affected...it's the risk you take when you don't accompany your passport for renewal/extension.
plus, is there any obligation for the people affected to be paid anything by officials (rather than insurers)? I wouldn't have thought so.

Come on, Violet. Nobody here goes and gets their visa renewed in person. I think it is cheaper to use an agent, besides being convenient.
That is a really bad situation, especially if they are a tourist and stuck in limbo.

How.many people do you know that have actually done it themselves? I'd be interested to see how many longterm expats on the forum have renewed their visa themselves rather than using an agent?violet wrote:while I feel for the people affected...it's the risk you take when you don't accompany your passport for renewal/extension.

absolutely take your point, but that doesn't negate the fact that there is risk involved. I'm aware of the risk when not doing it myself. I'd imagine the percentage is 1% doing it themselves rather than through an agent. Putting it on a bus is another step again.kansaicanuck wrote:How.many people do you know that have actually done it themselves? come on violet what? I didn't say people renew in person themselves. regardless, it's the risk 'we' take by not doing it ourselves. bad situation? sure ... it's a challenging situation. life is full of them.batshitcrazyweirdo wrote:Come on, Violet. Totally agree. I honestly would rather so it myself. Losing a passport is a big deal. Although it is convenient I hate giving my passport for someone unknown to handle it.violet wrote:absolutely take your point, but that doesn't negate the fact that there is risk involved. So you did your recent extension yourself I take it?violet wrote:while I feel for the people affected...it's the risk you take when you don't accompany your passport for renewal/extension.
How was that experience for you?
Can you please walk the rest of us through the process so we do not need to accept such a risk?
Note to self: Must be nice to morons.

why don't you read and interpret rather than just being in attack mode? you have an intelligent mind. why pretend not to have one now?
edited to add.
why is it that there are people who partially read something and conveniently overlook the rest of a post/s? the two realities can exist independently.... I can empathise *and be in the camp that renews via an agent, and I can totally accept the risk involved of doing things the convenient way. therefore, while empathising, I do not ignore the risk and I do not feel there is an obligation for anyone other than an insurer to pay any money. that does not make me the 'bad man' it does not mean I don't care.

You came across as a sanctimonious goody two shoes with no sympathy for those who did what basically everyone else does but just got unlucky.

Who do you mean by Officials? Officials didn't lose the passports.violet wrote:while I feel for the people affected...it's the risk you take when you don't accompany your passport for renewal/extension.

Fault lies, in my opinion, squarely with the transport company who let someone walk up to their bus and steal goods they have been contracted to transport.

They're referring to the travel agent they gave the passport to:violet wrote:i mean the police (isn't that who is mentioned in one of the comments in the OP as having paid some money for hotel etc?)
