Aeon Mall. A good thing or bad?
First time in Aeon Mall. Felt like any mall in America. Except for the Khmer script, all signs in English (or Japanese). Even the overhead announcements in English. No feeling at all of the KOW.
Is this a good thing or bad?

Don't worry, be happy.

This guy is brilliant.
Retarded? No way... you can't come across this stupid consistently unless you are pretty smart.

He reminds me of the Dustin Hoffman character in Rainman. I suspect he's autistic. That's why he is tolerated for the time being.ផោមក្លិនស្អុយ wrote:This guy is brilliant.

Big bad mall, totally against Khmer traditional culture. Those evil escalators should be banned. Plus the horror, they even have a Burger King that contaminates innocent Khmers.
And so clean, I'm sure it's a plot to make decent nurses self conscious when they go back to their germ-ridden wards.

Has anyone noticed how slowly those escalators move in Aeon? I always thought that was a nice local touch.

Hahaha . .if they went any slower they would be in reverse.
how precious is life when you spot a local from the boonies trying to find the courage to step on an escalator for the first time.scobienz wrote:slavedog wrote:Has anyone noticed how slowly those escalators move in Aeon? I always thought that was a nice local touch.

Please don't ban him. He's harmless and instigates some entertaining threads.

At the risk of inviting a few jibes... what I noticed most about Aeon mall is the vast number of square metres dedicated to eateries. Crazy amount. No western mall I've been to (in the UK/Aus) has that number of food outlets in a mall.
The mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be kindled.

Back when Sorya Mall opened, with the first escalators in town, they had security guards top and bottom, to help people on and off to train them how to use them.bigphatt wrote:how precious is life when you spot a local from the boonies trying to find the courage to step on an escalator for the first time.scobienz wrote:slavedog wrote:Has anyone noticed how slowly those escalators move in Aeon? Also back when Sorya opened. I have friends whose parent tell that they were scared to use the elevator as they hadn't seen one before and couldn't understand how the people entering it were disappearing.Playboy wrote:Back when Sorya Mall opened, with the first escalators in town, they had security guards top and bottom, to help people on and off to train them how to use them.bigphatt wrote:how precious is life when you spot a local from the boonies trying to find the courage to step on an escalator for the first time.scobienz wrote:slavedog wrote:Has anyone noticed how slowly those escalators move in Aeon? I think this should be changed into a poll with just two choices. Aeon is the kind of thing everyone has strong, polarized opinions on, and the results could be very useful for research.
Good. - You bow on the designated spots on the floor after coming back from the toilets. You feel like you are at one with the whole experience.
Bad. - You want the whole thing to burn to hell, it's just not right for Cambodians and they should stick with fly-blown markets for another 50 years.
