.. but I agree with G&T.

Very hard for a circumised male with no open wounds or STD to get HIV from an infected female. But it is still possible so covering up is the safest option.

Also I would sooner have unprotected sex with an HIV woman taking the anti-retrovirals than unprotected sex with a working girl who has not been tested.
What's never made sense to me is the strikingly low risk of infection:

https://www.cdc.gov/hiv/risk/estimates/ ... viors.html

.... compared to stats that 20% of working girls are infected and the strong anecdotal evidence for a good percentage of bargirls succumbing to AIDS. I don't have any kind of angle I''m pushing here and I'm too lazy to do the math, but WTF?
Referencing the article from above - the risk of HIV infection from Insertive Penile-Vaginal Intercourse 4/10,000 or about 1 in 2500 exposures. Or on average out of every 2500 raw fuck encounters with HIV positive women you would expect about 1 male to become HIV positive.
The number I used was 1 in 500 obviously states a much higher risk of HIV infection - and is probably from an older study.

I think even 1 in 2500 should get the male population of cambodia to practice safer sex by using condoms with the bar girls.
Also, having an STD greatly increases the risk of HIV transmission so guys who are patronizing the services of the bar girls and not wearing condoms are at higher risk of stds which puts them at much higher risk of HIV transmission.

Just some advice from a gay guy who saw quite a few AIDS deaths. It is a nasty nasty way to die.

That's much too simplistic a view of the bar girl environment. First, a good number of the girls maybe 20% do not go out for sex with customers. They are there only as hostesses. they make money from a salary and chat with the customers and try to get them to buy lady drinks for them for which they get a lady drink ticket worth a little bit less than half the price of the drink.
Mate, pleasant conversation?? Is that what they put on the front of the brochure?

Old dudes coming to the KOW generally don't travel half way round the world to buy expensive lady drinks in exchange for pleasant conversation though now do they? You can get that for free sitting at any pub bar in England with the added benefit of being able to drunkenly ogle at the bar maids boobs.

Man is a simple beast. In his purest form i tend to think of him as like a Jack Russell terrier furiously humping your leg.

I always envisioned him as an 80s porn-star wannabe with his hand up a filthy mongrel dog's ass?

Did I read correctly, that the inference of being gay (a) is some sort of confessional issue, and (b) that being gay has a statutary promiscuity clause?

I lived through the Eighties with no sexual health issues, as did a lot of my community. It was about how you do it, not what you do. The same has applied to all since; it's about education and access to preventative measures, not sexual preference.

Differentiate between parenterally (blood-borne) transmitted viruses (HIV, HBV, HCV), contact viruses (HSV 1—8, Epstein-Barr, genital warts*) and sexually transmitted bacterial infections (syphillis and gonorrhea) and you may quite easily get away disease-free from unprotected sex.

Don't you guys check your dates' skin, oral and nether regions before plunging in?

* I suggest you use a spell-check app, ScabieNZ. (Oops, typo!)

Hey, I made a typo.

I'm not an expert on sexually transmitted diseases. As someone who regularly trawls the gay prostitution sites in Thailand and regularly posts there about your experiences in boystown Pattaya, I suspect you have a more intimate knowledge of that area of life than me. bangkokbois indeed . . .

Chances are you won't catch it until you're living with someone who's infected as boyfriend or girlfriend for a year or more. That's if you're lucky. If you're unlucky - I met a 19 yo British kid in Vietnam that caught it within his first 3 months, he said it was from a female prostitute.
All those people with long term partners - get your Mr or Mrs to Thailand for a test - in Cambodia it's easy for the woman/man to arrange the result they want for some cash, even if you are fluent in Khmer. Then you had better make bloody sure that when she goes to see her mum in the province , that's where she is going.

I hear if you visit the temple and give good donations it will protect you from riding your moto like a twat and this sort of thing.

Once you start researching this stuff you easily see all that advertising in the 80's in Britain was just total lies. Very much like the info on drugs they put out. Give me the Nederlands any day of the week.

EDIT forgot to mention you have a much higher risk of contracting hepatitis C. It's contracted in the same way as HIV but lasts outside the body a lot longer. http://www.healthline.com/health-news/a ... ier-111413.
http://www.webmd.com/hepatitis/hepc-gui ... atitis-c#1
Can You Prevent Hepatitis C Infection?

There’s no vaccine to prevent hepatitis C. To avoiding getting the virus:

Use a latex condom every time you have sex.
Don't share personal items like razors.
Be careful if you get a tattoo, body piercing or manicure. The equipment may have someone else's blood on it.
Don't donate blood or tissue if you’re infected.
It's not so much of a life threatening disease anymore is the good news.

I'm very surprised that anyone would advocate barebacking local hoes and suggest the risk was infinitesimal. That's just pure bad advice, besides the whole range of diseases you could be spreading around. :-D

Well yes and no, I expect the majority on here have been lucky at some point or other. The wonders of alcohol and all that. Chlamydia is an important one to get checked for, as there are rarely any signs in men, but women can get really fucked up from it. Most of the others will give a flu like symptom or discharge, so if you're aware of what to look for, you should be able to check it in time.
My mate has recently contacted syphilis here from a girl at GSM. It seems the antibiotics have formed quite a resistance to it in Asia. He's currently on his third type and still not right.
It was a Doctor Scott diagnosis, but he hasn't the cash to go for all the expensive tests. Welcome to the KOW.
