June election thread
No risk, no reward. Anyways, they are all just giant washing machines, so I don't think it matters to them very much...
Took the Mrs to exercise her democratic right to vote cpp early this morning in our village.
Literally everyone I know by sight from the area was queuing up, it reminded me of an episode of The Simpsons when all of Springfield are in one place- the market lady, the dude from the shop, crazy old lady, the one legged man, the paper etc etc.
Even white old despatch in a singlet and bleached blonde hair bringing his ropey slapper back to 'homeland'.
All voters have their photo displayed on boards with id number, and there were a few toul sleng cracks from the crowd when searching for themselves.
Mood seems very pro cpp in this commune.

Think most of my city dweller family peeps went cnrp. From what I've gathered, i know a bunch of people who voted CNRP but went to CPP rallies / parades due to workplace peer pressure and free shit . Will be an interesting result anyway.

The provisional results will be out this evening.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.

Internet woes... Vietnam’s notorious undersea internet cable?7:53 p.m.
NEC spokesman Hang Puthea says preliminary results are in for today’s commune elections, but are delayed because of internet woes. He says the National Election Committee’s nine members are verifying the results now.
Sister in law working as a vote counter in kampong bumfuck (a cpp stronghold) just called to say cpp win by a few dozen votes, very, very tight.
Brother in law who is a tank commander in kampong bumfuck called to say all tanks are filled up with fuel (which never happens) and ready to roll.
Shit could get 'real'. Let's wait and see.

I will take a crack at translating: the preliminary results (informal) that news agents received from various provinces show that CPP won most of the kom songkat once again among the total of 1646 kom songkat throughout Cambodia for the vote of choosing the advisors of the kom songkat the fourth (charter?) of the (today's date).
A detailed breakdown follows if you click the link.
I, too, am curious why the CNRP is more popular in the cities while CPP is all over the countryside. It may be like red state/blue state where the urban areas tend to skew more liberal.
Cheers!

Nothing unusual about the opposition having a majority in the capital, it's the provinces that matter.pedros wrote:Pp results are out. Seems close. Cpp 51 seats cnrp 54. From wife translate.com

Considering the xenophobia that underpins its party platform, I wouldn't cast the CNRP as a liberal caucus. PP has (relative to the countryside) better schools, engaged youth (again, to an extent) so the urban/rural paradigm is apt as it is anywhere else.merchantsmutual wrote: I, too, am curious why the CNRP is more popular in the cities while CPP is all over the countryside.
