Seems to be a major bug bear of the expat French community out here.

eg. I went to the vets for cat vaccinations, and he gave me the vaccination record book, but all in French. Not a bit of English in the whole thing. :axe:

I don't know Abou-Gor. Maybe HE is to blame? Let's hope it doesn't result in anti-barang riots.

Maybe he doesn't speak English. Did you ask him for a copy in Khmer?

Medical docs are often in French, haven't seen too many vet docs...

It is a french bulldog? Does your animal hate you. Is that why you've gone to the vets to end its racist attitude?

no, he speaky the anglais. I wasn't aware Khmer was considered an international language - yet,
but it would have made more sense if it was in Khmer. don't you think?
Even though it's mainly expats who bother getting their animals vaccinated. :-?

What does 'international language' mean?
And why would Khmer need to be one?

If he is French then I don't think it is unreasonable for him to provide documentation in his own language. You said he spoke English, so he didn't insist in speaking French to you?

You seem to be very easily slighted.
MFI's last week, the vet this week... who's next to offend AG?

Last month I was having some problems with my new puppy, so I rang Agrovet for some advice.

I explained to them in English that he was brown, stupid, aggressive and liable to attack anyone for no good reason.

The vet replied in his thick French accent " Muzzle him". No, I said he's a khmer so I think he's Buddhist.

Oh, Des porcs capitalistes bourgeois, avec des montres de fantaisie et des bières artisanales, des vantards et des échalotes de cabales ... mais en quantité ... lire la suite

Bonjour, mes amis antiques, let's parler Franglais, as le late grand auteur and smith des bonnes mots, Miles Kington, used to dire.
Qui was Miles Kington?

Miles Kington

Columnist and author of Let's Parler Franglais!

This series for Punch magazine mixed English and French, written in the style of a study course
He died in 2008

Au revoir Mister Franglais
Why did Joey Barton put on a French accent?

Actuellement, Miles would have been as heureux as un chien avec deux tails aujourd'hui to voir his mode of parlement catching on like a fire sauvage la-bas trans la Manche dans le pays de la grenouille, le beret, les oignons, le huile d'olive extra virgine et le cheval (galloping et gourmet).
Bien sur, he would have been, how you say, chuffed aux bits.
Moi aussi. I admire les Francais pour their grande pugilisme to preserver their tres belle language contre le sorte d'invasion from ici that has been taking lieu at least depuis 1346 and that shock away victoire by le Prince Noir at Crecy.
Et peut-etre it would be meilleur pas de mentionner Agincourt, Waterloo, Maggie Thatcher, and M David Beckham taking le Michel at PSG.

Connaissez-vous Michelle by Les Beatles? You must souvenir: "Michelle, ma belle, sont les mots qui vont tres bien ensemble, tres bien ensemble". Merveilleux!
Naturellement, no personne ici had the phantome of an idee qu'est-ce que Jean, Paul, Georges et le drummer avec le grand nez were on about, mais it sounded sophistique and sexy, bien que "ensemble" was tres difficile pour les Anglais prendre ronde les tonsils.
Englishisms in France

Les baked beans
Le booze-cruise
"The buffet is open" in the UK / "Le snack bar est ouvert" in France
C'est le must!
Tres fashion
... and more readers' franglais favourites
Is the English language conquering France?

Which portez moi to un point tres important. Si vous desirez le langage Francaise survivre pour tres jolies much longes, get votre prononciation sorti! Tous that eu, a, ong et onnhh: franchement, c'est un mess, tous over la boutique.
Pas quelle surprise que vous employez le shrug frequent with les shoulders and les brows des les yeux. C'est difficile, c'est passe; c'est, as Les Beatles chansonnent aussi Yesterday (or, excusez mon English jeu d'esprit, "Hier" today, disparu tomorrow).
Why not take a leaf out of the livre Anglais? "Franchement", pour exemple, in le dernier paragraphe, is "Frankly" in English. Plus simples. Actuellement, frankly is derived from vous ancestres, Les Franks. C'est temps a vivre up to votre nom. C'est aussi temps pour moi to introduire mes rules d'or que will be of great aide to notre French cousines dans cette situation difficile.

The Beatles in 1965
I know it can be tres amusant quand ils mangler les mots, but, a le fin de jour, I have peur that it might be une touche contre-productif.
Nous avons grands nombres of votres expressions, so vous will still have un embarras de choix of les mots justes and apercus. Prenez cette rue, and vous will graduellement get used to it.

Pourquoi pas venez ici and avoir a "go"? If you become tres fatigue, et pour encourager yourselves, entrez un of notre restaurants Francaises superbes, ou vous pouvez parler le table d'hote et a la carte et aidez les Anglais who will be scratching les tetes over le menu and probablement ne connaissent pas their tartiflette from their andouillette.

Mais, je entends vous dites, is there une guide facile to cette Franglais? Mais oui. You could essay un livre of the doyen, M Kington, or even utilisez this piece humble. It will have less cachet but will at least servir as an aide-memoire.
