I'd guess the number teaching is closer to 10%. You'd be surprised by the vast number of foreigners here who go about their day-to-day business without ever going near any bar or hang-out you (or I ) know.merchantsmutual wrote:Second how many expats make a living off teaching English? 50%? 60%? That should get us headed in a direction.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
Agreed. I'm probably on nodding terms with maybe 100 expats and I can count the number of Teflers amongst them on one hand. And that 100 just includes western Phnom Penh based expats.Lucky Lucan wrote:I'd guess the number teaching is closer to 10%. Despite his claims of being anti-social, Scobienz is the K440 supreme socialite, with a vast network of friends and connections sprawling all over the country. He's like the social equivalent of Miguelito. While Mig is the resident K440 baller and is all about about cigar rooms, private clubs and chamber of commerce meetings, Scobienz's calendar is dotted with fundraisers, dinner parties and glitzy gala events. Comes with the job I guess.

Hey, I was slumming it yesterday. I even stopped by Lone Star mid afternoon for a few beers.LexusSchmexus wrote:Despite his claims of being anti-social, Scobienz is the K440 supreme socialite, with a vast network of friends and connections sprawling all over the country. Not sure how long he stayed after finding out that they do not stock Hendrick's Gin or Crystal '85 though

Surely, all the information would be with the department of Immigration . Every time a visa is issued, every time you enter the country the information is catalogued . It'd just be a task of 'mining' it from these respective Khmer resources. Mind you, we are talking of Khmer bureaucracy here.

Long enough for my friend to make more than one inappropriate comment to the new owner's 5 month pregnant girlfriend (wife?) working behind the bar. Luckily he was pretty chill and didn't seem to mind - weird, for an Australian.Playboy wrote:Tis true, I saw him enter the establishment !Miguelito wrote:Hey, I was slumming it yesterday. tbh i was only thinking about western expats, i wasnt really thinking about all the Chinese etc etcKachang wrote:But then I was kind of bluffing. Something about fake news etc.... But a reasoned estimation.Jamie_Lambo wrote:350,000? wow much more than i thoughtKachang wrote:I contacted my friend working at immigration for you, currently there are about 349.600 expats in Cambodia (he gave me a rounded number). Those are the people registered with a non tourist visa. Compared to 2012 that's 8% up, but for a real comparison he told me we need to compare the numbers of 31-12-17 which he doesn't have yet, but I can ask him again on the 2nd of January 2018 if you like.vladimir wrote:Not sure where this should go...
Does anyone have recent immigrant figures for expats...if we could call them that?
It seems to me that there has been a huge increase..from Australia, US, UK, SA, Nigeria and the rest of West Africa, Spain, France, Russia, India, the Middle East (one of my friends is dating an Iraqi guy)
Compared to a few years ago, it seems to be growing rapidly...I do wonder if at some point it may become a political issue.
What are the figures compared to say, 2010 or 2012?
To be honest, i don't think anybody in the Kingdom really has a clue. They will know the number of visa given out, but whether or not the people are here....
living in SHV probs distorts my perspective a little, being more of a tourist hovel than full of expats
