I'll attempt a download.
Srey Thy has a new band Channthy Cha Cha. I saw her sing at Le Bistrot de l'Institut francais on 218 street last Saturday. There was an article about Channthy Cha Cha in PPP last december. http://www.phnompenhpost.com/post-weeke ... dependence
Clip of Chantnthy Cha-Cha playing at Oscar's last December
Her autobiography out late this year too
“The whole secret lies in confusing the enemy, so that he cannot fathom our real intent.”
Anyone under 65 or so that releases an autobiography is an utter fucking twat.
Rated R for Ricecakes
I've always thought
a} CSP are well over dated
b} The singer is a right annoying tear.
c} Not many agree with the above

I never really got them either. I was already getting bored by the Dengue Fever-type sound before they turned up, but they are pretty competent and if people like them that's all good with me.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
I'm not a hater, and kinda respect what they do, but not really my thing. I took the Mrs to see them once, and she is a khmer music lover. Her view was that they were average, but the singer was 'fucking stupid'.
horses for courses, I suppose, but do they have a non-hipster aligned local fan base? most people at their fits are either white, or the type of khmers who associate themselves with that scene... samouthistas, shall we say.
dengue fever, however with chom nimol or whatever her name is has a big fanbase among cambodians. probably because she was famous before.

I don't find them amongst my all time 100 favourite bands, but within the limits of SEA they are pretty good. Before I left the UK 25+ years ago I used to see live bands 2-3 times a week for years, then it got cut off when I left. I saw CSP on Otres beach a month or two ago and they were good, both musically and enthuisiasm-wise. Good on them for making the effort.

Regrettably, even Dengue Fever concerts in Cambodia have turned into total hipster-fests....

Saw their first ever show in Alley Cat. The wife remarked that she didnt sing very well.
Best garage band in PP.

Damn you beat me to it.LexusSchmexus wrote:Yeah I saw them at Alley Cat in 2009 and wasn't too impressed. Sure it was fine in a garage band kind of way as there wasn't much of a live music scene, but I think it's a bit of a stretch to call her a Diva. Most Khmer have never heard of the band.
I was going to say " queue the tryhards with their I SAW DENGUE FEVER IN XXXXX stories"

Saw them at Otres. Meh.
My Khmer friends also said she does not sing that good. Like a strangled cat.
I honestly don't understand the hype.
