Wouldn't a fused multiplug have prevented that? I've never had an obviously -related appliance go bang (my fridge packed up the other day, but don't know why yet) but you may want to buy one and situate it right next to the socket, so that anything after the multiplug will be protected.Felgerkarb wrote:My surround sound speaker system exploded. ירי ילדים והפצצת אזרחים דורש אומץ, כמו גם הטרדה מינית של עובדי ההוראה.
We've had an odd smell in the house for weeks and I put it down to the old TV getting hot. Turned out to be a plug socket that was slowly melting! The appliance plugs were also red hot.
Pulled the socket off and there was dirt behind that was damp and was shorting the bottom socket.

I have lost several water pumps (the ones you put in fish tanks for filtration) due to brown outs, designed to run at 220v(ac) if subjected to aprox 110v(ac) for long they break.
...Always in my humble opinion...

Small UPS for my computer, LED big screen (low power draw), modem, WiFi router, and fan. Good for about 20 min., and protects those sensitive pieces of equipment (hard drives, mostly).
Replace the UPS battery every year, $14?
Get a bigger one, as needed.
Also, have essential stuff on the cloud or a backup somewhere (if you don't trust the cloud). Then just switch to laptop whenever you need. If power out is longer than 2 hours, head to a decent place with good WiFi and plugs in another part of town. Essentials possible.

1 KVA voltage stabilizers cost $30. 1.5 KVA are $45. I have 4 total in my 1 bedroom apt, and all my important or expensive electronic/electrical devices are always plugged into them. I learned this from a wise local 20 years ago, and have not lost a device yet. A couple of fans and lights have gotten fried, but they're cheap and easily replaced.
The Cambodian electric system, and the local electrical "engineers", completely suck donkey dicks, imho.
Sorry about your speakers! Garage jm used to have his audio equipment repaired by a guy who worked at the Sunsimexco (Akira shop) on Sihanouk, iirc.
