I understand that the victim herself told the police "this guy molested me." That is not hearsay.Don-Pierre de Plume wrote:No evidence was given, except for some hearsay. He is most likely innocent of the absolute stupid and ignorant claim by the mother.

If the case rested on the mother claiming "my daughter says this guy molested her" without any confirmation from the daughter herself, that would be hearsay.

I said this a while back and have the same feeling.Kachang wrote:

If this was me I would not be letting this disappear. Where have all these "friends" gone that were 100% sure of his innocence?
If my buddy was locked up and I knew he didn't commit the crime no way would I not say anything and stand up for him.
As the saying goes "the silence is deafening"...

Many of his friends and family did say online and to the press that they didn't think he did it. To which the police and community said "OK, your opinion is noted." I'm not sure what else people expect his friends to do.

You think it's an obligation to present evidence to the public before the trial? How do you know there's no evidence? Even though I do not trust the Cambodian police or the judicial system here I also find it hard to believe they will lock some random foreigner up for an extensive period of time without any evidence at all.

It's almost as if DPP expects the police and prosecuting judge to log onto 440 and carefully detail all the evidence they have gathered, just so he can be sure there has been no miscarriage of justice.
The last time I checked, prosecuting authorities don't carefully itemise the investigation and evidence on social media or the internet in the UK, US, Europe or Australia; perhaps he believes the Cambodian authorities should be held to a higher standard of governance and transparency.

Cambodian police often boast about evidence they have against a foreign perp. My gut feeling here is they don't have much beyond the girl's statement.scobienz wrote:

Better you not operate a retail business... you'd be forever trying to piss off your customers....scobienz wrote:Kachang wrote:No evidence was given to whom? To you? To the 'barang' population? You are not a customer. Customers pay to buy products or use services. As such I'm under no obligation to be polite to you or tolerate you.

If this site required a subscription fee, you wouldn't have any members.
But the quid pro quo of that arrangement is that no site owner should feel any need to be polite to asshats who not only add no value, but actively go out of their way to be twattish and put off other members.
