Back to the topic at hand, about Mark Smith, an update would be nice. As anyone know, this forum often strays off topic but eventually finds its way back to the main topic. On that note, any more talk about how you feel about the forum can be taken elsewhere.

Don’t bother answering. I will go back to the batcave and not post outside of it on this forum again.

He politely commented on your previous post. Then he politely brought the thread back on topic with an additional comment, and you take it as a personal slight against you. You are unhinged.violet wrote:And you’ll be making the same comment to gavinmac? And a similar one to the others who were off topic? You seem to have developed an issue with me, Miguelito. But I do agree that gavinmac should be routinely castigated, as a general policy.

On topic, I think it is status quo. Went to Prey Sar awaiting court appearance, still in Prey Sar awaiting court appearance and will still be waiting until next year, if the normal pace of the courts is adhered to.Miguelito wrote:Back to the topic at hand, about Mark Smith, an update would be nice. Maybe expect it around July. It hasn't even been a year yet.

I thought the rumour was he'd been released a while ago and deported?

That seems like a very light sentence for someone convicted of indecent assault of a child.
That was the rumor. Of course, the article doesn't say he was present in court. Perhaps he was released "on bail" and went home before being sentenced, and then conveniently received a sentence requiring no prison time, which would be rather fishy.

Christ. $1250? No prison time?
Shameful.
There have also been quite a few paedos in Cambodia who have had the cash to silence complainants.

Amazing, in light of the coming elections. There was such a strong reaction to his arrest from Khmers, one would have thought authorities would have been impelled to make a strong statement. They must feel they have the election wrapped up, so it's business as usual in the justice system.
I expect the foreign media will focus on this one, though, as usual, he had his defenders in the expat community.

The sentence suggests that the police and prosecutors and everyone else involved realised that he was probably not guilty, but to admit it after such a public hoo-ha would have meant too big a loss of face.

There is a logic to this assumption. And I can understand why an innocent someone would accept the charges (regardless of how horrible) and get the hell out of the country rather than spend more time in prison.slavedog wrote:The sentence suggests that the police and prosecutors and everyone else involved realised that he was probably not guilty, but to admit it after such a public hoo-ha would have meant too big a loss of face.
Alternatively it is entirely possible that he could have paid his way to a light sentence.
I guess we’ll never know.

The likes of Daniel, Vlad and GavinMac can get fucked.
You're all quick to be judge jury and executioner, and who the fuck gave you the right?
Anyone related or affiliated with Mark Smith has yet to present a statement or defense in light of the events. He has always maintained his innocence.
If i'm wrong, then I am a cunt, but for now, all of you who are straight up judging, fuck off.
