Warning for those who

The rains have come,

the dam has opened and blaring sirens, and, as John Holt sang....

Those by the river north of town are expecting the worst.*

So bad things do happen in Kampot.....

Quite a bit of southern Laos is under water as it has been almost nothing but never ending rain for two weeks. I have had enough!

TO ALL PEOPLE LIVING NEAR RIVER BANK PREPARE FOR FLOODING.
Bad news. Water is very high near Tek Chou. Here it is 20 cm from my land. Maximum sea tide will be sometime between 2 and 4 PM, so we will have small flloding. Dam siren alarm worked 4 time last night. I hear it. Now 4 gates are open at the dam. If rain doesn't stop they will open the 5th gate, which means then we will have flooding in the evening or night.
Prepare to move motorbike and all object which don t support flooding to higher ground, just in case
Ready for action!!
Have fun.

^ good one my Lord...... but not entirely accurate.

in fact, it is one of my favorite sayings when the locals look at me when i am out riding in the rain.

"I'm not afraid.... I'm not made of sugar".

of course this is spoken in Khmer as everyone down in here in Kampot speak perfect Khmer.

Lots of rain about and also strong winds from the w and sw.The Tonle sap lake is expected to raise over a mtr in the next few days, its already 6.5 mtr deep.
In Kratie the Mekong River is raising fast and is expected to reach 22.5 mtrs in a few more days just over the Alarm level and only half mtr off the flood level also Kompong Cham will be over the alarm levels in a few days.
today we have had to cancel some of our cruisers that cross the lake, from experience,we will not risk any crossing with winds over a certain speed, especially west and south west winds.the Captain has double anchored the big Queen Tara as better to be safe than sorry.Batten down the hatches:)and keep the beer on ice. :pissed:

yes they have in fact you got to go way back to about 2000 for the same water levels at this time of year,so far we have had double the rainfall (average)for this time of year, about .8 of a mtr:)

Ahhhhh, It's that time of year again - The Venice of the East.

Say what you like about Shitsville, but it sure is nice not having to wade through waist high human excrement for 3 months of the year, every year....
