The train will cross Mao Tse Tung, 598 and Hanoi street - all very busy sections where the tracks cross.
It'll be traffic carnage.

That's it, it's just a short extension connecting the airport with the existing line, 1.5km long. I like the idea but find it hard to believe that there will be any viable shuttle between the airport anytime soon, it could at best run hourly and would only take you to the old station at the junction of Monivong and Russian Federation Boulevard anyway.jackrossi wrote:I think the airport train will run on the existing line, until the old porsenchey colonial train station, than it will have to turn south for 1400meters until the airport. Only this last leg on the line is missing and it would connect the old train station to the airport
There's another plan to run a road along some old disused tracks between about KM7 on NR 5 and Tuol Kork, apparently the preliminary work has been carried out already and it's happening.
I don't understand why anyone can complain that they are getting evicted from a railroad, it's pretty fucking obvious that you should keep away from them.

I ride my bike alongside the tracks almost on a weekly basis and the tracks have been in around a month or two now. Pretty sure the tracks turn East instead of West, meaning the train will have to go East, then back West towards the station. What I question is the speed of the train. It's already so slow as is, I fail to see how it'll cut the time down a lot besides at the height of rush hour. How many trains per day? Sounds inconvenient unless there's one every 20 minutes, which we know there won't be.

A train every 20 mins will really snarl up all the major roads it crosses. One every hour would still be too frequent!LexusSchmexus wrote:I ride my bike alongside the tracks almost on a weekly basis and the tracks have been in around a month or two now. Only way to make it work Is to build a modern elevated track. That ancient track cannot handle speedy trains necessary to make it worth the trouble. Typical clusterfuck.

Making a skybridge for cars over a train line is quite cheap compared to a skybridge over another vehicle road due to the fact that you don't need to add connection to the side of the ramp so having the cars go over the train at Hanoi Street won't be too hard. On russian Blvd. There is already a traffic light but what worries me is the 105k which is truly narrow I had a talk with the local chief and he says people are upset and worried that their house will loose value. I think if the govt. Wants they can expand 105k by 2m on each side only affecting one or 2 buildings (and a lot of covered shopfronts, fences and walls) but that will piss off lots of Street vendors, which the govt. plans (allegedly) to move them into the now empty market building in borey new town 1.5km west.
Some chinese developer few months ago was talking about a station over the river in arey ksat and a train line going from the airport to arey ksat on the abandoned track in TK up to the fuel depo in russet keo than along the planned new bridge to chroychangvar from russey keo and than onwards towards the new bridge to svay chrum until arey ksat where the new line going to Vietnam should begin. But I find that very far fetched.

Aand now this has been halted already.
http://www.khmertimeskh.com/5077929/air ... ct-halted/Airport railway project halted
Following multiple protests by local villagers, the Ministry of Public Works and Transportation has announced a halt to a railway project meant to lead to Phnom Penh International Airport.
Villagers of Por Sen Chey district’s Ka Kab commune have been protesting against the railway construction in their community over the past few weeks, burning tyres during some protests.
The villagers are fearful of evictions and upset that the government has not been more forthcoming about the project, which is being carried out by Royal Railways along street 105K and is meant to make ferrying goods to the airport easier.

http://www.phnompenhpost.com/business/p ... t-april-10The new rail line between Phnom Penh International Airport and the railway station on Monivong Boulevard is scheduled to open on April 10, according to government and Royal Railways officials.
Hoeurn Somnieng, deputy director of the cabinet at the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, said the infrastructure for the project was mostly completed, with only a few small tasks remaining.
“It will reduce traffic congestion and reduce the time for travelling from the centre of the city to the airport,” Somnieng said yesterday.
The service will be free for the first two-and-a-half months before it transitions to a fare-based system, according to Royal Railways CEO John Guiry, who declined to provide the future price but said it would be cheaper than a tuk-tuk or taxi.

“We will try to get many people using it and see what it is like and experience it,” Guiry said, adding that the 10-kilometre trip would take between 22 and 30 minutes – less time than an average tuk-tuk or car ride from the city centre to the airport would take.
While Royal Railways eventually plans to install three train engines imported from Mexico, delays in the procurement process caused the company to start by using two existing carriages with a capacity of between 110 and 130 passengers. Once operations begin, the train cars will depart from the station every 25 minutes, according to Guiry.
“We run the test train for about three to four weeks, and then the train imported from Mexico will take over in late April or early May,” he said.
Bringing the news. You stay classy, nas, Cambodia.
