The joke at the time was, "how do you stop a Cambodian Army tank"?
Shoot the fuckers pushing it.

My posts are just jokes, maybe they're rude, offensive, and politically incorrect. They're not my opinion, viewpoint, idea, or judgement, but they're just fucking jokes so lighten up.

Here's part of a'n unofficial translated speech by the PM that berates the Daily, from.......
From: Rich Garella
......1995The tape recording of my speech in Sa'ang Prek Ambel commune, which was even broadcast on the TV and radio, should be taken to compare whether in the speech there was something relating to ordering attacks against embassies, no, there is not such an order. And if there is not such an order by me, and if any incident happens in any embassy today or in the days ahead, investigation and surveillance must be conducted against any newspapers who publish wrongly. From the truth inside that, we include the illegal newspaper Cambodia Daily. You are not yet fully legal, I heard that you are not yet legal, if it is not fully legal, why do the police allow you to stay in Cambodia? If it is not legal, we send them back to their own country. But I do not force the expulsion, we have to do according to the law. Is there any staff from The Cambodia Daily coming here? You have to be responsible for your article. I would like to emphasize that if there is any violence taking place, the one who alters the truth is to be responsible. But first we have to investigate. I do not frighten those people to escape, do not run away. No problem, if you are courageous, do not escape or run away.
Then they publish and said that I am organizing demonstrations to attack embassies instead. So the newspapers who do not publish the truth, should be prepared. If there is any blast in the embassy, you would be arrested. We have to arrest without waiting. Because they are the source of the problem; they turn white to gray, then to black. If you do not want to publish, do not publish it. If you want to publish you must publish all my statement. If you publish more or less than the truth, I would use my right, you have to be careful. That is called creating turmoil. I want to make it clear we are not making war with any countries; we just want to have the right to protect our sovereignty. If AFP [Agence France-Presse] come also? And who are those sharp-nose guys, which agency they are from? They are taking a lot of pictures, maybe they come for that story also.

Krisher-Steele isn't happy about how the Daily chose to market its closure:
Bless
http://www.phnompenhpost.com/national/d ... -liability“I really regret that there were many comments from within and outside Cambodia who regarded the closure of the Cambodia Daily Newsletter as linked to politics, and accused the government of trying to oppress media freedom in Cambodia,” reads the September 9 letter, which was written in Khmer and signed by Krisher-Steele, who also asks the premier to find a solution based on his “win-win” strategy.

The tax department has apparently frozen the accounts of Bernie Krisher's rural school construction NGO.

How do you "sell" an NGO?
You sell something that is profitable. Who would pay for a loss maker?
Ok, he says he sold the assests to his daughter, but are they not the assets that have been paid for or subsidised by foreign tax deductible donations?

Well their line for the month of August was that it was sold to his daughter. But then, in his letter on September 4th, he said that he'd be taking (not "buying back") all of the assets from the Daily. That's one interesting sales arrangement. I wonder how much it would have been valued at back in April, and what she "paid" -- It could have been a scheme to avoid U.S. Inheritance tax issues (I'm not saying it was, but it wouldn't be surprising).LaudJohn wrote:How do you "sell" an NGO?

I recall reading that she paid $100 or $1000 or some token amount like that.Miguelito wrote:Well their line for the month of August was that it was sold to his daughter. Regarding this current discussion (the closing of the Cambodia Daily), I do not think that anyone is "gleefull" about it. However, there have been a number of unanswered questions, and I believe many people (myself included) are rightfully skeptical about the CD's position.Loogan wrote:Seems some of you are downright gleefull at the impending Dictatorship.
Why no mention of the other 19 news Organizations shut down?
Regarding the other organizations, I suspect many of us just don't know enough about them to make an educated comment, and most of the coverage has been in Khmer.

That's pretty much it, I was aware of Radio Free Asia (who have been broadcasting in the region for more than 6 decades and are US government funded), and one or two others but they all broadcast their propaganda in Khmer and I haven't used a radio in a long time so don't have much to say about their closure. Here's a good quote about RFA :Miguelito wrote: Regarding the other organizations, I suspect many of us just don't know enough about them to make an educated comment, and most of the coverage has been in Khmer.
Catharin Dalpino wrote:They lean very heavily on reports by and about dissidents in exile. It doesn't sound like reporting about what's going on in a country. Often, it reads like a textbook on democracy, which is fine, but even to an American it's rather propagandistic.

And another one telling of his Cambodia Daily's heyday.

Deborah Krisher-Steele is now disavowing the apology letter she wrote a few days ago, saying it was all in Khmer and she didn't know what it said and she signed it under duress.
