Ludicrous or not, I have better things to do than sitting here writing BS.
So UK passports now are twice as big as they have the old expired passport attached to it? I don't believe this is right.
Then phone up the British Embassy. Think I'm going to sit here arguing with you over something so trivial.
Thank you for being willing to sit and argue with me - I assume the full stop was intentional and you didn't mean to type a question mark.

I've googled it. I can't see anything.
Also the embassy doesn't do passport renewals.
Where did you get your information?
You only need to keep both passports together if you have a valid visa in the old passport. Are you sure you aren't getting confused by this?
I got mine back un-stuck together just a few months ago.
I think someone at the embassy jizzed all over them and they got stuck together in the post.

Have you actually got a retirement visa or are you just hoping that you won't have to comply with any of these new rules? That's wishful thinking, and you might find this out for yourself in the near future. I'm not panicking because I've been in total compliance with the laws for a few years, but I would just suggest others get their house in order, the times are changing.

The forum seems split on this issue. In one camp are those who don't have, can't get or won't get WPs. They are the ones who are saying not to worry, it will resolve itself, there are ways around it and/ or my friends in high places will protect me.

In the other camp are those who have WPs and are in compliance, saying this is tough shit and people better beware because times are changing.

I think I'm in my own camp saying "Who cares, just get a 3 month visa and renew it indefinitely for three months at a time"

Come on, that's like me saying I don't care about American entry restrictions because I never go there. You don't even live here, of course it's not a problem. When was the last time you stayed longer than the duration of a tourist visa?

Isn't it only an assumption at this stage that 3 month visas won't be deemed long-term?

It's more than that. It's the assumption that people can make life decisions 3 months at a time. As if everybody lives like Benjamin Holst.

I get what you are saying, and when you put it like that it sounds very easy. However there has been nothing official published on this so we don't really know if that's an option yet. They could cut down a lot on the use of E-class visas and force some people to use tourist visas, let's see.

I read the b2b article i cannot see what the big panic is ?

Either

1. You are working legally in which case you can get a WP and associated extendable 12 month business EB visa

or

2. You are not working and can get the extendable 12 month ER Visa but cannot work on that visa ( and unlike thailand there is no need to have USD$15k in the bank etc )

or

3. You are a frequent mongerer like GavinMac in which case you just come in on a 3 month

or

4. YOu are a hipster digitial nomad freelancer in which case you are fucked cos there is no category for you .

What am i missing ?

What are the financial requirements? The original announcement of the ER visa was so vague.
this ER Visa entails a minor change in requirements where foreign retirees will have to present documentation from their home country that will prove their financial stability and capacity to live overseas during the duration of their stay.

You're missing the bit about the need to be 65 or older (some people are saying 70+) to be eligible for the ER visa.

Then You do a GavinMac, or, since You're a nomad and working for some shady Cayman Island online job broker, You simply leave every three months
and go to Cayman Islands where you pick up the $10k in cash You can bring in without declaration and which is needed anyway to support You hipster
lifestyle. A slight change in arrangements but no real hurdle. you can of course withdraw cash in a local ATM but should the authorities start matching
ATM photos from transaction done with foreign cards against pictures from the visa database (like they do in Sweden to catch people with undeclared
income from tax havens) You might have to dress in a burkha when getting money locally. Again, truly hipsterish to dress in a burkha.
