I do not think it fair to describe GSM as a brothel.
Sex does not take place on the premises, as far as I know.

Merriam Webster defines a brothel as "a building in which prostitutes are available", while Oxford defines it as "a house where men can visit prostitutes".

I think the usage of brothel is apt.

American English. But I guess that's fair enough in this case. Except does GSM qualify as a building? I would suggest the open air bit does not so you fall on that point. The OED is using the word "visit" in a delicate way. Maybe you need to be English to get the point. Even MW may well be acting similarly when they say "are available ". You need to be American to answer that point.

Also, it seems a very broad definition if you extend the meaning of the word to any building where prostitutes are available to meet and take elsewhere. I think the world needs a specific word that describes a place where sex is available on the premises as opposed to a pick-up joint.

Minor point, but I read the Bayon Pearnik article as saying the fight was in a bar opposite GSM, not in GSM itself.

Correct,i was in GSM on that night,and indeed the incident did take place at a bar across from GSM.

Although when the Sheriff and his hound turned up,they did take a walk/sniff through the mall.The guy that was chased out of the bar,was a non caucasian.

I've always understood the definition of a brothel to be the same, in principle, as a pub and their on-licence. Consumption is on the premises, at the point of sale, in contrast to an off licence where the consumption takes place other than where procured. In that sense, GSM is an off-licence, is it not?

I'll not mention the now almost archaic term "outdoor" as part of the analogy because most probably won't have a clue what the fuck I'm talking about.

^^^This. I think that any embassy would issue certain "guidelines" discouraging your visitations to certain establishments. Even if they didn't, a staffer would be well advised not to be found at certain establishments if you want to maintain decorum -- and your job.

I have reason to believe his name is Elmore. Because the clowns at the State Department sent me another letter updating me on the status of several of my FOIA requests, most of which deal with dead or extradited Americans. Next to each case number they wrote the name of the dead/arrested person I had inquired about. And next to this one they wrote "Elmore."

I don't think he was a diplomat/foreign service officer.
