I have an old friend from the USA who lives in north Phuket.
He and his wife were sent over by their church about 10 years ago, to convert the local Muslims. He told me that his church donates about $3,000 every month to cover their expenses (house rent, 2 cars, food etc).
When they first came over, they set to work with a will, preaching all over the community, but with little success. Not to be downhearted, they redoubled their efforts.
One day, after a few years, my friend excitedly told me that they had a total of 2 converts ==> a couple of Muslim teenage girls. (I absolutely do not believe that these 2 girls genuinely converted to Christianity...).
Over the years, his will to go out and preach lessened, but his church was still sending him $3,000 USD every month.
Today, after 10 years or so in Phuket, he sits around, cuts the village grass, chats with the local Muslim fishermen and collects his $3,000 each month.....
Is it too late for me to find Jesus?

In my neck of the wood the Catholic, Christian, Mormon, Evangelist fiercely competing with one another for local followers. I sometime go to one of them for free cup cakes.
My local God bothering crew have released a new GoFundMe (the church in USA recently bought them a dirtbike, because the bloke couldn't drive his car on the muddy roads).
The incident, by the hand of Satan himself was this....
What a bunch of scamming cunts.I want to go home too, maybe Jesus can provide me with plane tickets and pocket money.
https://www.gofundme.com/allison-family-furloughThe Allisons are an incredible family of missionaries in Cambodia. After an incident this month, the Allison Family's savings for their 2019 furlough was wiped out. Satan seeks to kill and destroy, to discourage and deplete, especially among God's servants! Would you prayerfully consider donating a little (or a lot!) to help this family make their visit to the states again in 2019.
Your donation would enable their work in Cambodia to continue, provide hope and encouragement for a missionary family, and help spread the gospel.
For more information you can reach the Allison Family on Facebook, visit their prayer site on FB (Allison Family Mission Prayer Support).

Thankfully...Friends, we have made a HUGE mistake with our visas. We somehow missed our normal reminder to renew five of our kids visas. The overstay cost per day for the past nine weeks we missed is $10 per day per person. We are heading to immigration in the capital right now to beg for forgiveness of both the overstay and the fee (the amount of which will wipe out our savings for our 2019 furlough and then some). Please pray for a miracle for us. We are so frustrated at ourselves and just hoping for the best while dreading the worst.
We just can't thank you all enough for praying. By God's mercy, we were able to receive our kids' visas right at closing time. The immigration official was very helpful and even lowered the price some. Our bank came back online at just the right time for us to be able to withdraw money, and our sweet seven did awesome with the four and a half hours of driving and office visits, even managing to get in on some traditional Cambodian games outside of immigration. They are so glad they still get to travel to tomorrow to see their grandparents! Their parents are thankful for yet another life lesson on trusting God to provide and the power of prayer. We are excited about another year of serving in Cambodia!

So anything bad happens, even if it's your own fault, and it was Satan's doing (and yet also it was God testing you). Anything good happens, it was due to prayers and God's goodwill, and is a life lesson that God exists.pedros wrote:My local God bothering crew have released a new GoFundMe (the church in USA recently bought them a dirtbike, because the bloke couldn't drive his car on the muddy roads).

Doesn't really sound too different than Islam's "inshallah", that everything that happens is the will of God.
I am Facebook friends with missionaries here as well, and their posts read almost identical from the above posts. "God is testing our commitment to be here as we each got sick this week" -- "Thank you all for your prayers, we are feeling much better now and can only thank God and your prayers that helped get us better" and more and more every day.
Yuck - I got queasy just reading that muck. Are people REALLY that brain-dead? Rhetorical question. So glad I found logic at the age of 13. Pissed off my old man when I told him I wouldn't be attending church in the future. It was many, many years before I found out about atheism - thought I was defective somehow, all that time. Religion is a scourge on mankind.

The swiftness from which the hardcore Christians change between "it's God's plan" i.e. "whodafockknowswhydisshitappened?" to exactly knowing what is the devil's work has always astounded me.Miguelito wrote:pedros wrote: So anything bad happens, even if it's your own fault, and it was Satan's doing (and yet also it was God testing you). JESUS LAND by Julia Scheeres is a great book describing how this is used to abuse children.

To speculate on why that extraordinarily comfortable arrangement continues, think, gentle reader, about how much the Jimmy Swagert types who are running this "mission" in the US are getting in donations from their yokel megachurch parishioners by telling said yokels that they are putting pants on the loins of and Jesus in the hearts of some jungle dwelling heathens. If they didn't have these $3k a month goof-offs they would a to be quick and find some. They are a bargain.

At $3k/month, you'd think he could spare a few lady drinks for the Magdalene demimondaines at Willy's Pony Tail. Cheap Charlie!
