My son who is ten watched it and found it interesting, spurring a load of difficult to answer questions.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.

Is Telesales/Arty/Riversnide in it?
My posts are just jokes, maybe they're rude, offensive, and politically incorrect. They're not my opinion, viewpoint, idea, or judgement, but they're just fucking jokes so lighten up.
I won't be watching it. Rod Liddle put it quite well in The Times a couple of months ago:
I think my drinking problem would be a lot worse than Brad’s if I had been married to that grotesquely self-aggrandising harpy. I don’t know what the children she bought are doing right now. Maybe she uses them as bookends or colourful wastepaper baskets. Or perhaps they are being entertained by an enormous retinue of nannies.
Her latest shopping trip was back in the familiar haunt of Cambodia. Angelina, a shocking actress and a worse director, has made a film about the country under Pol Pot, who implemented what we should probably call controversial policies that resulted in millions of people being killed.

or read the sub titles?
"We are turning into a nation of whimpering slaves to Fear—fear of war, fear of poverty, fear of random terrorism, or suddenly getting locked up in a military detention camp on vague charges of being a Terrorist sympathizer." HST
Best film set in Cambodia is still 'City of Ghosts.' Matt Dillon absolutely nailed it wrt the hippy clueless dope-fuelled ex-pat set in Cambodia in the 90s, and the night scene in Kampot is great (James Caan sings in Khmer). I bumped into the little security guard who ended up with his sun glasses in the film the other day. Still wearing over-sized sun glasses and uniform.
Re the quote above - I wouldn't say Ms Jolie is a 'shocking actress,' but she should cut out the Mother Teresa rubbish and, more recently, the 'victim' card.

He's fluent in Khmer, I forgot to turn on the subtitles but the little dialog there was I could follow. I don't think it was all that great really, but it's interesting that much of the so-called criticism of the film has consisted of personal attacks on the director.Phuket2006 wrote:Does he speak KhmerLucky Lucan wrote:My son who is ten watched it and found it interesting, spurring a load of difficult to answer questions.

Its sad what she did with that movie.
Great acting, good story in itself.
But to take that and stretch it into over 2 hours with constant close-up emotional shots and filming the sun shining through the tree-tops in every single scene is just to much. Pack this into a 30min educational movie and it would be worth to watch.

I really enjoyed the movie, and I think that AJ has done something good to bring global awareness to Cambodia and the recent Khmer History.

USA Today: https://www.usatoday.com/story/life/mov ... 954464001/Oscar snub: Angelina Jolie's film 'First They Killed My Father' misses out on nomination
Pardon my engrish, thanks you.
Hardly a snub. Just because the film is made by AJ or set in Cambodia does not make the film Oscar-worthy. Anyone who puts her in the same category as Andrey Zvyagintsev or Fatih Akin is an idiot.raendi wrote:USA Today: https://www.usatoday.com/story/life/mov ... 954464001/Oscar snub: Angelina Jolie's film 'First They Killed My Father' misses out on nomination
