Cambodia Speed Ferry Hires ex-United Employees
The Cambodia Speed Ferry service, which operates out of Sihanoukville with services to nearby islands, has hired a wave of former United Airlines employees. United has been swarmed in controversy this year following a handful of public relations nightmares, to include forbidding travelers that wore leggings from boarding, violently dragging a passenger off a flight, and even the death of a giant rabbit on a flight. This has led to a series of employees being let go, but they have been quickly recruited by the ferry service.
Sok Sophiep, a spokesman for the company, said that it was an opportunity too good to let pass. “We as a company constantly strive to meet international best practices, and if a company such as United Airlines can get away with forcibly removing a passenger from their seat, then we have something to aspire to,” Sok explains. “We, too, constantly oversell tickets, and are almost always late. But when we saw those employees dragging a person off a flight, we knew that we had to hire them.”
Brian Knottingham, a tourist from the U.K., was not surprised by the move. He wrote a review on trip advisor which stated:
“The last time I rode the Cambodia Speed Ferry, it was 2 hours late, broke down, and then my rucksack was casually tossed into the ocean. Instead of apologizing, they then let my girlfriend slip as she exited the ferry, hitting her head on departure. Their parting words were to ‘fuck off assholes.’ I thought, ‘what could be worse?’ But then I saw the United video, and thought ‘at least it wasn’t that.’ But I guess next time it could be.”
With increasing competition to the island, it is an auspicious move. While United has revised their policy, with an increasing amount of compensations for its customers, Cambodia Speed Ferry has simply raised prices. Sok stated that “it’s the islands, relax man,” before he spat in our faces and walked away.
