Mu Sochua: Breaking News - Flees Cambodia
"Opposition Deputy President Mu Sochua left the country today after allegedly being notified by a senior official that her arrest was imminent.
Her departure came a day after Prime Minister Hun Sen threatened action against “rebels” and “foreign slaves” during a speech in Siem Reap province.
Sochua left from Phnom Penh this morning after she had been notified by a senior government official that she would potentially be arrested next week, she said, adding there was a clear link to the premier’s speech on Monday and a series of provincial speeches she had given in the last seven days."

Wise to Get Out when told.
Edit. Question...so she just leaves from the airport like normal or does she take a private jet? Don’t airport workers get put on alert? Or, better question...why do they warn her. Being nice?

Indeed, better to be sipping café au lait and eating croissants with the RainMan in Paris than drinking rainwater and eating rice gruel with Sokhaviolet wrote:Wise to Get Out when told

Yep. Little point to being a martyr when nobody else gives a damn.Playboy wrote:Indeed, better to be sipping café au lait and eating croissants with the RainMan in Paris than drinking rainwater and eating rice gruel with Sokhaviolet wrote:Wise to Get Out when told

How sad. I'm no great supporter of the CNRP but Mu Sochua did have some integrity. No doubting that politically we are in for an "interesting" few months in Cambodia.

It is likely that Cambodia will have to wait for a generation to have even the sort of semi-democracy that some other
ASEAN countries enjoy.
In the meantime, the richest 5% will do well and the really powerful 1% will do splendidly.
To use an Americanism, it sucks. But consider the sad political misfortunes of Thailand, a far more
prosperous and better-educated country - now commanded by a man who accused the toothless and
emasculated opposition of using black magic to undermine his rule.

No idea if this is true or fake news, but if she had any integrity she would stay in the country. This and Rainsy's saga illustrate why the opposition are a joke.Rhani the Elephant wrote:How sad. In any case, I hope the Western donors are pleased with the society they have created here through their continued financial support for 20 years + of the status quo. Hip hip hoooray for endless foreign aid no matter what the consequences.
I think you'll find that the money is coming from the opposite direction now, in larger quantities, and with different instructions.RBD wrote:No idea if this is true or fake news, but if she had any integrity she would stay in the country. Brunei - Islamic Absolute Monarchy - Run by a billionaire, sharia-law supporting, Christmas banning totalitarian.
Indonesia - Presidential Constitutional Republic - With strong blasphemy laws used willy-nilly to suppress politics. Losing states such as Aceh to Sharia... Don't mention Timor......
Lao PDR - One-party Socialist Republic. Smack peddling, ivory smuggling, timber dealing commies.
Malaysia - Federal parliamentary elective Constitutional Monarchy. Stepped up security laws, $3.5bn 'missing', Saudi 'gifts'. Proxy war with Thailand since 1948.
Myanmar - Parliamentary Constitutional Republic. Yeah 'The Lady' is doing so well......
Philippines - Presidential Constitutional Republic. Right wing vigilante gun nuts having full support from an unhinged populist leader.
Singapore - One-party parliamentary republic. Basically 'good' fascism
Thailand - Military Junta under a constitutional monarchy. How many coups?
Vietnam - One-party Socialist Republic. Free market commies.
