Waste collection and garbage removal in Sihanoukville
A few weeks ago the Phnom Penh Post announced that a new firm takes over for Cintri to tackle trash in Sihanoukville. A day after the bid was won KSWM (Kampong Som Waste Management) Co Ltd began their duties collecting the garbage, and Cintri ceased their operations.
That was back just before Pchum Benh. Now, a weeks later, I have heard that KSWM has stopped collecting, and that garbage is piling up. I'm not sure if they're not collecting fast enough, if they took a holiday, if they don't have the capacity, or what - I just heard that it hasn't been collected for several days.
Is anyone in SHV with a greater knowledge about this?

People should look into the Indian smart app that takes pics of garbage with GPS tagging, then sends it to the New Delhi sanitation department.
They put it in their route and it gets cleaned up. It isn't ignored and the sanitation department knows exactly where it is and how bad the trash looks (overflowing, blocking traffic, a biohazard) and assigns a priority.
Cool how tech can help, huh?

If they remove all the garbage from Sihanoukville there will be nothing left.

I don't think that "people" need to look into something like that; the company contracted to remove the garbage would need to start that initiative.TristranandIsolde wrote:People should look into the Indian smart app that takes pics of garbage with GPS tagging, then sends it to the New Delhi sanitation department.

But I think a good first step is picking up garbage from, say, a large paying customer such as a hotel, which isn't too hard to find.
They don't have enough trucks and have ordered more, bigger, ones.
Waste was collected yesterday.

Then how did they win the bid?YaTingPom wrote:They don't have enough trucks and have ordered more bigger ones.

Maybe because they were the only company that applied and submitted all needed documents? And as far as I know, the time they entered their bid they had already ordered trucks but all the trucks haven't been delivered yet.I think people are just in too rush with this. They are new company and it takes time to set up everything and clean the mess what Cintri left.Hanno wrote:Then how did they win the bid?YaTingPom wrote:They don't have enough trucks and have ordered more bigger ones.

I bet they employed the same people Cintri did.

Remember the time that Cintri workers went on strike because management stopped them draining the trucks petrol at the end of the shift and selling it?YaTingPom wrote:I bet they employed the same people Cintri did.
The workers rep was interviewed by the PPP complaining that it wasn’t fair that they couldn’t steal it anymore.

After a few failed attempts asking garbage trucks drivers, one finally managed to give me the correct number for KSWM management.
We called them to request that our street be included in their schedule. They replied we needed to show them our former contract with Cintri since apparently they are starting from ground up with no customer data base...
After days if not weeks and still not seeing them coming, another phone call informed us they only have about 20 employees for now compared with 60 fomerly working at Cintri if I recall/believe the recent newspaper article on the subject.
IMO situation ain’t gonna improve any soon

So Shitsville is drowning in more garbage than usual just before the start of tourist season? Sounds lovely...
I've gotta go down there before the year is out for the first time in years. With all the changes I've heard about, I'm not sure I'm looking forward to it as I before.

Nasty.
It might mean, the place may only be clean when government dignitaries and their guests show up.
Or when the new condos invite everyone for the launch, they clean up all the crap, VIPs come and go, back to SNAFU.
I can see that, a lá Beijing just before the Olympics.
A charade until an honest administrator can be found, then (all) people can start paying taxes ...
Maybe that's why Cambodia is so screwed. People are CONVINCED that bribery is the only way ... Sad ...
