Are there really many Chinese ''tourists'' here though?
When you look around SHV aka ''The New Macau'', there looks to be very few Chinese tourists and mostly casino workers/people doing business?
Almost all Bitcoin (bitcoin=money laundering) trading occurs in China. This criminal use is why the crypto currencies will eventually be banned by most major governments.
The USD/CNY started a downtrend at the start of the year exactly the same time as capital started to flow out of China and as Bitcoin started it's massive uptrend.
Macau casinos were THE place to clean money until the government clamped down on it.

What happens to The New Macau once the capital flight stops?

Yea I also noticed many restaurants in this town putting on the Chinese language on their menu. We had a few new tenants in our building buying Toyota Prius and Hyundai not long after they moved in.
You don't see Chinese tourists. They get up at five, scoff noodles, and hurtle round the country with a tour guide, shop the fuck out of pre-arranged malls and then eat in their hotel and go to bed, next day, rinse and repeat.spitthedog wrote:Are there really many Chinese ''tourists'' here though?

Hotels have tried to take the kettles out of rooms because they bring instant noodles and don't eat in the restaurants.

The only surprising thing about this is that it wasn't already done years ago.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.

I see at least 20 tourist buses packed to gills will middle aged Chinese tourists every day on my commute. The buses block up the narrow streets in bkk2 and 3 in the morning, Hun Sen Park perpetually has 3 to 4 parked, and the royal palace now has priority parking to accommodate the dozen or so Chinese buses there at any given moment.
A Chinese restaurant I go to run by a cool old Chinese couple that have been here 20 years regularly sees 25 bus loads a day for lunch and dinner. In and out in 30 minutes.
Whether more than a few cents in each dollar they've spent is trickling down to Cambodian owned tourist establishments is questionable.

LoL, some years ago, I lived next to Phuket International Airport and 'worked' most days as a volunteer tourist police officer at the airport.Would be interesting to see how the immigration officers respond when they start getting all these forms filled out in Chinese characters.
The huge crowds and jams of Chinese tourists was primarily due to exactly that problem! - The mainland Chinese tourists were completing the Thai immigration cards in Chinese characters.

Yup, this morning there were Chinese tour buses parked the entire length of Wat Botum. Never given those buses much thought, but this morning I did notice that in the window of bus were signs in Chinese.epidemiks wrote:Pu Li wrote:You don't see Chinese tourists.
