8 day loop suggestions??
8 day loop suggestions??
My wife and I are planning an 8 day loop vacation: Phnom Penh to Kampot, then to maybe Chau Doc/Can Tho/Ho Chi Minh, and then back to Phnom Penh. Any suggestions as to what to see, how long in each place, method of travel, etc? Thanks

For Phnom Penh to Kampot, consider getting a taxi. Last time we went, I think it cost $35 to get there. If you've got accommodation booked, the cab will take you to the door. Big bonus, no smelly backpackers to deal with, and the taxi drivers we've used drive more sanely than the bus drivers.
Conversely, if you went on say, Giant Ibis bus co, IIRC the tickets are about $10 each way, you get dumped near the durian roundabout and have to make your own way to your hotel. There would be at least one stop on the way which adds time to the journey, whereas with the cab, he'll probably stop for fuel once and that should be it.

what do you like to do while traveling?
Can Tho is a nice little town, but there is not much to do once you've visited floating market or two and done a sunset boat on Mekong.. unless maybe cycling and/or homestays outside town and/or doing nothing is your thing, i'd say two, three days max. keep in mind that floating markets tours are expensive, i recall we paid $40 in 2013.. but we didn't negotiate at the riverfront, booked ours through hotel. people are nice, but English is poor (or was in 2013)..
i believe there are regular buses going to Can Tho from Kampot.
Ho Chi Min is interesting, but a bit too busy, there are millions of scooters, and people generally were not as friendly as in Cambodia. good food though, both cheap and higher end. there is a fine arts museum! and parks..

Can Tho is very over-rated imo and the floating markets are no longer the real thing just tourist disneyland. Sa De is a great little town with very few tourists and Ben Tre is fantastic deep down in the Delta, great bicycle riding , getting lost place. My Tho is by far the most touristy town and full of coach loads of day tripping Russian from HCM, avoid at all costs. Makes no sense to go from Kampo to Chau Doc either when Ha Tien is only 60k away and is a fairly pleasant town to stay a night.
Kampot, Ha Tien, Can Tho Sa Dec, Ben Tre, HCMC , easy.

k440, something to do when you're pissed.

How about Kampot for a few days (taxi down from PP), can check out Kep as well, then taxi to Ha Tien, spend a night there, take the ferry to Phu Quoc for a few nights, then fly up to Saigon, and then bus back to PP?
Consider though that you'll need a visa (unless you're exempt) for Vietnam, and then a second visa to enter Cambodia again (unless you live here on a multi entry).
Another good loop is:
Taxi down to Sihanoukville and take the ferry to the islands for a few nights.
Then head to Kampot for two nights.
Kep for a night.
Back to PP.

Thanks, we will do either Horace or Miguelito's suggested trip.... Will let you know how it goes...
