Hi All!
In the past, I have gone by road from Sihanoukville to Pattaya ($27) in one trip. I find it very exhausting, so I’m considering the possibility of going from Sihanoukville~Koh Kong, overnight at Koh Kong, then Koh Kong~Pattaya (or BKK) the next day. A 2 day journey.
I *did* search this without success, so I’d be most thankful to hear from anyone who has *recently* done the trip in 2 days, as I described above. Please, I don’t want guesses or assumptions, I want to hear from anyone who has made this trip as I described it in my first paragraph.
Thanks for reading, all solid info on how to do this would be most gratefully received!
Happy Travels
p.s. If it makes any difference, I would stay at 99 Guesthouse in Koh Kong.

Yes, it is straightforward.
Bus from Sihanoukville to Koh Kong - Virak Buntham, leaves at 8.15am, costs $8 and takes around 5 hours. Then get a moto/tuktuk to the border the next day, and jump on a shuttle van to Trat bus station, where you can find regular transport to Pattaya or Bangkok.

Over nighting it should also avoid the cluster fuck at the one little immigration booth once the busses off load there.

i set out to walk from the border to koh kong once when the bad news was pissing me orf, then along came a paramount or rithy monty bus cant remember which. 50 baht and i was home
subsequent times i caught the bus trat chantaburi aranyaprateth rather than cross that border again. twice i did that detour.. just too much bad news there. latest cross at poipet was even approaching civilized if no even pleasant, aghast!

Get a bus right to the border. After border controls tell the minibuses Trat. You wont usually wait long as thet fill up quick(unlike the ones waiting on people with start to ends tickets) In Trat stay at SA hotel , and eat at Lotus Tesco, (or go along to POPs guest house) Next morning Big bus to your destination. Trat is quiet but for one night I'd prefer there to KK.
Thanks for your replies everybody, particularly cyclingqueen.
I have no doubt there are buses from Trat bus station to Bangkok, but how often do they depart Trat?
Have you actually gone from Trat bus station to Pattaya? If so, when?
I had info some months back that there is no service between Trat & Pattaya.

I was doing the Koh Kong to Pattaya journey quite regularly at one point.
I would always just turn up at Trat bus station without too much of a plan. There are regular minivans that go to Pattaya, but they do tend to cram passengers in during high season (lots of backpackers). And sometimes you will board a van thinking you are off, only to be driven to another part of town where you disembark and wait for more passengers to arrive.
There are big buses, but they are less frequent and the touts will always push you towards the minivans. I know there is a big bus that goes at 13:30 from one of the first bays on the right. Tickets for the big bus are sold on the right side when you enter the station. The big bus is slower but arguably more comfortable and relaxing.
I don't actually mind doing the journey that way if I have time, it's nice to spend a night in Koh Kong. But the fucking around at the bus station with the lying touts and generally having less time to spare these days makes me more inclined to fly.

Minivans in Trat depart every half hour iirc. Anyway, you certainly don't have to wait long for one.

big buses from trat going to bangkok are not so frequent and would go through chonburi not pattaya
big buses from trat to chantaburi are more frequent and then chantaburi to bkk are more frequent too but still go through chonburi not pattaya. however the drop off point in chonburi is on or near the chonburi drop off point for the frequent bkk to pataya buses.
chantaburi to pataya is available but you have to go searching for the minibus start point. about a km or two from the bus stations.
if you prefer big bus i would suggest using a stop in chantaburi unless you are accurate enough to catch trat-bkk big bus
this info is years old and may or may not have changed.
