Visa to UK.
Visa to UK.
Hello everyone, first post.
I’m trying to obtain a visa for my gf to visit the Uk sometime this year.
I’ve read the Gov UK site but it all looks confusing. I’m in the Uk and she’s in PP.
Has anyone any experience of using an agent?

Just tell her to get a tourist visa, and she'll have to show funds in her bank account for more than six months to a value of 1500 quid, a full travel itinerary and a return ticket. Keep yourself out of the picture apart from being her sponsor. Best would be if you could meet up in Europe and you accompany her to UK. Shengen Visa's are much easier, quite cheap by comparison and if she get's that first, it helps with the UK visa.
Without being related to someone with a Schengen nationality it's very difficult for Cambodians to obtain a Schengen tourist visa - she'd need a pretty good reason to get one. Meeting a BF from the UK in mainland Europe is far from a valid reason to obtain one.Pu Li wrote:Just tell her to get a tourist visa, and she'll have to show funds in her bank account for more than six months to a value of 1500 quid, a full travel itinerary and a return ticket. And OP, the visa she needs for the UK is called a Standard Visitor visa, not a tourist visa.

The typical UK tourist (as said officially "standard") visa process for Khmer GFs is apply, get rejected, resubmit with more info, repeat a few times and eventually succeed. Except if the GF has form in which case it will be a lot easier or a lot harder depending how the earlier application and/or visit went. Allow lots of time and money. Don't buy any ticket until you have the visa.
If you really want to succeed the first time and get the visa quickly, you need to know the long list of documents that are necessary, then get them all, know which need to be translated, which need to be verified etc etc. I did it once and it was like having a prt-time job for a month. Got it first time, however.
Or you pay an agent a huge sum of money and you still have to run around getting docs and you may well get rejected if the agnet is not good.
Is it really worth it?
Why not take her to Australia? Much easier.
Also, if you are in the UK that will complicate things.
Edited.

I’ve seen a lot of photos of bargirls in Australia, but I thought that they had to go with an Australian dude.

Well that is what normally happens but it's not a requirement. And they are not all BGs btw.gavinmac wrote:I’ve seen a lot of photos of bargirls in Australia, but I thought that they had to go with an Australian dude.
Yes. Some worked in shops and stuff and even if they did work in a bar they only did it for a week, and never went with a customer, then they fell in love and lived happily ever after in a suburb of Sydney.QED wrote:Well that is what normally happens but it's not a requirement. If it's simply for a tourist visa, sufficient funds, a return ticket, a reason to return (proof of employment or ownership of property, etc) and suitable accommodation for the duration (I presume with you) should suffice. If that goes well and you decide to go for the full visa, a lot more documentation will be required - language tests, your proof of income, etc, etc will be required.
Good luck!
Good luck!
I'm surprised everyone's been so helpful, not one person has even asked the OP whether he's actually even met his gf in person yet, well done for behaving everyone.
There are dozens of posts on this topic, GavinMac normally posts links to them all each time someone asks the same question, surprised he hasn't this time.

I'm not a negative person, I encourage people all the time...it's usually to f**k off! But, whatever.

You're welcome. Cynicism does not make me feel good. I have never known a situation where a GF was taken to the guy's home country end badly. Sure, the relationships did not endure in the long run but that's a different matter. In many cases it suits a guy who is still working in his home country and therefore cannot spend too long in Cambodia. Expensive but can be worth it in those circumstances.PSD_Kiwi wrote:I'm surprised everyone's been so helpful, not one person has even asked the OP whether he's actually even met his gf in person yet, well done for behaving everyone.

Sounds a good start. I had to show a lot more than that. Maybe the UK has got more welcoming of immigrants since I did it. Oh, hang on, I think they had a vote on something or other.Cam-pooh-cheer wrote:If it's simply for a tourist visa, sufficient funds, a return ticket, a reason to return (proof of employment or ownership of property, etc) and suitable accommodation for the duration (I presume with you) should suffice.
