Was just going to post the same thing. It showed up as sponsored content on my Facebook timeline which I thought was strange. Didn't know what to think of it.
Think I called it on another thread somewhere a couple of weeks back - since the CD demise, the PPP appeared to pick up the anti-HE/CPP mantle, rightly or wrongly - the result is inevitable.

Given fake gavinmac's connection to the regime he'd probably know about such things before anyone else does.

I think they've been relatively balanced in their reporting. They do seem to have attracted the attention of the big fellow recently, he has mentioned them a few times during speeches. Much as I respect the Post and its staff it was foolish of them to report 6 deaths in a plantation dispute last week. There was only one dubious source, and no photos. I was shocked to read that, as an incident like that could have huge implications. It turned out there was no evidence. Whoever rushed to publish that without getting independent verification should be fired for unprofessional conduct. And they should learn how to write articles without directly accusing anyone who hasn't already been sentenced. I really hope the Post isn't going to shut. This could all be rumor-mongering.Spigzy wrote:Think I called it on another thread somewhere a couple of weeks back - since the CD demise, the PPP appeared to pick up the anti-HE/CPP mantle, rightly or wrongly - the result is inevitable.

Claiming the army had killed six people when it not true would be bordering on incitement I imagine. Well at least the government could take that view.
This same AEC News mob had a much more balanced report -- Death, Injuries Reported: Cambodia Army Fires on Villagers (video) https://aecnewstoday.com/2018/death-inj ... z59pYPNkUM
Raised a few interesting points in the process.
I like the way they pop up the full conversation with Holmes on their website. From memory the Daily started with a leaked comment or post on someone's Facebook page who later claimed it had been hacked.
Found this interesting too. Right at them on ethics.
At the time it was widely known around town that GDT officials were at the same time examining records at The Phnom Penh Post, with one staffer describing “mountains of documents piled up in the fishbowl”. No mention of this was made in any of the publication’s reports on The Cambodia Daily.
When asked about this, along with unconfirmed reports fuelled by comments from staff since the beginning of the year that the The Phnom Penh Post had received a $2 million tax penalty in 2016 for allegedly not paying income tax on staff salaries, the same staffer brushed aside the question and refused to discuss it further.
If true, it would be a serious omission of a significant fact in The Phnom Penh Post‘s reporting at the time.
Don't know if it is me, but I notice they didn't tie "strong, resilient, unbiased, and transparent media" directly with the Post in the last paragraph either. Just "the last bastion of independent daily news journalism".
Subtle I know, but interesting .

I remember a few sources saying that the PPP did get hit with a huge tax bill a few years back, but had been compliant since.
It's a respectable publication that has, as far as I know, always been privately owned. It never claimed to be anything else.
Anyway, all just rumors, we'll have to see how it pans out.

How many days now until The Phnom Penh Post becomes part of The Phnom Penh Past?
https://www.ucanews.com/news/phnom-penh ... bill/81821A report by online news outlet AEC News said the Post will need a massive cash injection within the next 60 days and quotes computer hackers as saying Post Media Co. Ltd. has been hit with a tax penalty of US$3.9 million.
Sources close to the Post say its publisher, Australian businessman Bill Clough, "went ballistic" over the penalty and has threatened to close the 26-year-old newspaper unless the tax department backs off.
