I’m on Twitter. He followed me a week or so ago. I followed him back and then blocked him after a few days. Couldn’t take the rubbish he was writing. Reminded me of the rants Ricketson went on and could t be bothered being involved in any way.crazyjohn wrote:I have been sparring on twitter with mockgavin. It's weird, like some disgruntled and vindictive former Post employee who's probably doing a lot of meth.

What is NSPCC? People and acronym these days!Pu Li wrote:Could you give us a slightly less hysterical insight into what on earth you are taking about?the chicken wrote:Cambodia suppressing the freedom of speech, and China raping them in their ass around the corner!
Some Chinese feller is sexually assaulting their donkey/horse cross? And the Cambo's aren't listening to the animal?
Mercy's sake. Where's the NSPCC?
I find these issues disturb me so I will try to elaborate.
I just find the shared concerns among the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) leaders about the North Korea nuclear program is laughable when there are immediate issues should be focused on in Southeast Asia. In term of China, they are buying out a few Southeast Asian countries to the sell out leaders. Cambodia is an immediate thought came to mind, Laos and Myanmar by destructing the Mekong river. Not only they gain control over the natural resources, but politically too. Deurtete runs his mouth like a like a lobotomize person murdering his own people on a so called 'war on drug' speaking in a barely comprehensible English and cursing the then president Barack Obama a 'fucking dog'. The Rohingya crises where Myannmar military murder and rape little kids and women, the displaced refugees so far is between 600,000- 1 million, who came to financial aide? Certainly very little from these so called ASEAN leaders but the international communities who tried to help. The all of the aforementioned countries above when others criticized those leaders they could not take the criticisms, the only way they know how is using force and bully the weaker ones i.e. its citizens ; while their beloved China scoffed at them behind their back.
I think the essence of the the ASEAN meeting/summit issues should be focused the problems in front their door than worrying about others' businesses. But it seems part of their chief worries is showing off the development and cleanliness when the meeting is taking place in their country's capital city. Cambodia and the Philippines in this case.

Interesting post Chicken. I don't really know much about it, but I think ASEAN has always been a trade agreement type of thing. Obviously it encourages co-operation between governments. It's nothing like the EU though, which has encouraged and enforced common standards in law and manufacture etc across the whole "community". It's another debate whether that is a good thing or not, but the countries involved already have a lot in common. They all have well functioning law systems and democratic elections for example.
So when it comes to ASEAN, their are quite a few political systems in play. Some countries are Sultanates, others are run by military juntas, while some are still run on communist lines. They don't discuss other member's internal politics at these meetings anymore. They did back in the 80s when ASEAN backed the insurgency.

Firstly Duterte is Phillipino, so why should he speak English for our benefit? The loose translations the MSM provides are totally designed to show the worst possible scenario. Take the statement 'Shoot them in their vaginas.' No, he said 'if these women support these terrorists, shoot the cunts.' Okay, not pretty but hey, it's ISIS supporters. I'm with him on that.
ASEAN is a trade organisation. Not a mainstream inter-governmental talk shop. They can't do what you want them to do.
North and South Korea are some way down the road to peace. The USA will do their best to fuck that up. Watch this space. America doesn't do peace.
Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar are very poor countries. If China pours some cash in, in return for trade and infrastructure, who's losing? You might get to see kids with shoes on. (Note irony).
China does not interfere in international politics. Trade all the way. They are not scoffing at any other country. They may look and shake their heads a bit but it's trade all the way. They learned a lesson and they don't want military bases in 170 countries. It's too expensive.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if the Post were to be shut down in the next week or 2. It's a dying publication, which has been on the wane since 2014.
How many times have we seen Premier League and Championship clubs send out statements with board and director backing managers, and a week later sack them?
Just because there's a statement with a Post letterhead saying "move along there's nothing to see here", doesn't mean they're not in the mire.

Yeah, they've really ramped up the anti-govt rhetoric over the past few months, I've was wondering before all this tax stuff came out if they were doing a swan song.0zirC wrote:It wouldn't surprise me at all if the Post were to be shut down in the next week or 2. Print media is all but dead anyway, can the Post manage to go digital, like the Daily didn't?
Massive stalker
I think their ad revenue is doing well, especially on Thursdays (like today) with the real estate insert, and other special publications. It surprised me to see that they need to get million dollar cash injections in from Australia, but with that kind of support behind you, you don't just wither away and die.

Their digital ad revenue is appalling.

A cash injection from daddy, yet they have renegotiated loan payments from a local bank. The relationship of the Cloughs cuts deep.

Instead of directing your vitriol towards ASEAN (which is a trade organisation) my dear chicken you should start with the leaders of those countries, that chick Suu Kyi who’s done fuck all to help or even acknowledge issues within her country (I notice some of her cabinet are “retiring”. I doubt she has long). With regard children being raped I will er on the side of caution with that one.
Critiquing a non native English speaker whilst dribbling words out yourself is never going to win anyone over to your way of thinking chicken. I read your diatribe four times and gave up.
My friend is a Flip. He laughs at the selected quotes from Deterte. He often emails me the correct quote and as has been said already it never comes out as OTT as the press report.
SE Asia is full of one party one rule politicians. Hun Sen is a minow compared to the rest.
NSPCC - National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children. Quite apt in your case chick’.

Leaving aside the idea that trade and money are separate from "international politics," the belt and road initiatives cost a lot of money and create a physical presence in other countries. I would agree they're being much more deft about spreading into Asia, but they're Asian, they get it. It's not Commodore Perry showing up with gunboats, it's a concerted effort between Chinese foreign service and businesspeople to show up with money and promises.
Of course what triggered me to post was the idea that this doesn't involve politics. It's already a joke in Thailand, where there are more and more 100% Chinese owned and staffed factories showing up, operating de facto illegally (and very automated, advanced). When Thai factory owners report them, guess what happens? The Chinese Embassy gets a call, then people in Thai government get a call and then the problem goes away. Mai bpen rai.
Everything going in is very, very political, it's just not dudes in uniforms with guns, tanks and planes and it's going to go no differently than the non-political American "business" involvement in Latin America when shit goes against the Chinese wishes down the road. It may not go as far or they may sputter out on this before then, but it'll probably look a lot like Roosevelt Corollary for sure, with suspiciously connected Chinese diplomats and "businessmen" running around the capital doing things they probably shouldn't be doing to change the outcome of a country's political will to suit their needs. We didn't always start with guns and bombs either, but we got there. We started with - wait for it - trade, investments and loans. Mmhmm.

Agree, money is power, and one can seldom separate politics and money.
I doubt China will resort to military action, there is simply no need, they get what they want with money.
Who would start a war with them?

What is Holmes' basis for saying the amount of the tax assessment and its validity and the discussions are "confidential"?
Is he claiming that he and his paper are barred by law from discussing the tax matters? If so, what law?
Is he claiming that the tax department has ordered him not to discuss it? If so, he should say that.
It sounds to me that when he says these matters are "confidential," this means nothing more than "The Phnom Penh Post does not want to be transparent and inform its readers and the general public about what is going on."
Why did the Post deem the tax assessment against the Cambodia Daily to be newsworthy but not the tax assessment against its own paper?
