Kak Channthy from Cambodian Space Project Killed in Traffic Accident
Reports from Facebook say that the singer from CSP was killed when a car hit her moto-rickshaw outside Sun & Moon on 136 last night.

Scary to think that this could happen on st 136, which is pretty crowded right there and hard for a car to go quickly. I'm surprised we don't hear more about tuk-tuk / rickshaw deadly accidents. I think we all get a false sense of security in them, but they're not exactly safe.

Tragic news. Not really the place to expect something so awful to happen.

It wasn't on 136, it was the junction of 163 and Mao Tse Tung.Miguelito wrote:RIP

That's the second auto-rickshaw accident in about a week, the other was near Independence Monument, a large bike hit one and knocked it onto its roof, the back of it was flattened but fortunately there were no passengers.I'm surprised we don't hear more about tuk-tuk / rickshaw deadly accidents. Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.

^^ Ah, that makes more sense, thanks for clarifying.
I was in a tuk tuk a couple of years ago, heading West on 240 I think. We were crossing Norodom at around 11PM, and a moto was heading north, and ran the light. He plowed into us pretty fast, and it sent my mate out of the seat hitting his head on the top. The drunk moto driver was somehow OK, stood up from the ground, grabbed his bike, yelled at us demanding money, before speeding off. It all happened so quick, and then was over. If it was a car we would have been goners.

A huge loss for the alternative Cambodian music scene. There was a BBC story on Chanthy and her former partner and band co-member Julien, which was already sad enough. If there's any solace then it's nice to know she shone bright til her last moment, a proud and fiercely cambodian woman. Rest in Peace.
So tragic. Great girl. Friends for 10 years. Too young. Leaves a 13 y.o fatherless son. Loved by many around the world. I'm shocked and shaken. RIP Srey Thy

I also thought the lead singer was Srey Thy. Kak Chanthy was also a lead singer? Am I missing something here.PJ wrote:So tragic. Great girl. Friends for 10 years. Too young. Leaves a 13 y.o fatherless son. Loved by many around the world. I'm shocked and shaken. RIP Srey Thy
Respect.
I've met Srey Thy twice, even having a game of 8 ball with her when she was on a break, what a wonderful kind person.
Never mind.
Thy is the short version of Channthy......RainMan wrote:I also thought the lead singer was Srey Thy. Kak Chanthy was also a lead singer? Am I missing something here.PJ wrote:So tragic. Great girl.
