Cambodian Passport Via Donation
Hello everyone,
I was traveling in SE Asia for most of 2016 and headed home to work and save some more money in January last year. Between then and now I have been extremely fortunate and come in to a substantial sum of money via a UK National lottery win. I have made a few investments in the UK which are doing well and it is now time I branched out and I'm looking to head to Cambodia and so have set aside a nice slice of bank for some fun and business their.
My first question is regarding access to a Cambodian passport, I have been reading on-line that I can basicaly buy Cambodian citizenship by making a cash donation of over 1 billion Reil to the national budget allowing me to bypass the normal 7 year route. Has anyone on the forum done this before? If so how long did it take from start to finish?
Thanks in advance.

You also have to know people. You can’t just rock up to immigrantion and ask to see “the big boss”!
Well, you could and buy you’ll be fleeced. In fact if you try to get a passport without using the correct channels you’ll be fleeced.
Unless you already have contacts or a business relationships at home doing business, or are already in some kind of business making millions, you’ll either be laughed at, fleeced or both.
“Yes thanks for your interest sir. Yes you can give us 1 billion riel. How did you earn your money? Business, family inheritance, investment?”
“Naaa mate. I won the bloody lottery like. By ek!”
Honestly. I’ve no idea.
I’m sure someone with immense knowledge and wisdom will be along soon. Probably Lucky Lucan.

Your first port of call is the Department of Identification in Chbar Ampouv, all the application forms and requirements can be obtained from there.

Look into working with NGOs or Charitable organizations that benefit the rural areas of Cambodia. Making handsome donations to the Cambodian Red Cross would look favourable in your application.
Starting up a business in education or hospitality (even combine the two), or any business that helps invigorate the workforce and make a positive change within the local economy, that would also look good in the eyes of the ministries. Getting this published within the media, PP Post or Khmer Times, even a $600 slot in Koh Santhepeap will also be a big bonus.
If I missed something out please feel free to let me know.

10,000KHR is the official fee for a Cambodian Birth Certificate

As you stated that you have set aside a slice of cash for business/investment here, I would recommend that you get the passport via investment, not donation to the government. That is a pretty straightforward process and won't be difficult. And, if you're investing $350k+ plus you'll have (or should have) a lawyer, so they can push through the paperwork for you. Busloads of Chinese (is that correct collective noun?) have done this, and so can you.Type here to search wrote:Hello everyone,

You may loose your current nationality/passport, which implies you need a visa, when you return to cold UK (and thevisa might be denied), you loose pension, you loose the final fall-back, etc. There are reasons, people from poor countries want a EU nationality .......
Several EU countries do have regulations, that, if you obtain Cambodian nationality through the love-channel (takes 3 years of marriage), you do not loose your original nationality, provided the original nationality is properly maintained by timely renewing your original passport.
The Cambodian passport is also a pretty weak passport, not giving access to many countries, which will limit your free travel (based on your UK passport) significantly. And when you are "rich", this usually implies you develop a travel future.
So, the cheapest option for a Cambodian nationality might be the love route, I think, many Cambodian partners would be interested to support you on that for some USD 10K a year. Take care to have the marriage on marital conditions in your EU country and it might be cheaper then the investment or donation route. The marriage has to be recognised in Cambodia. Check the detailed conditions though.......

Nonsense. UK (and many other countries) allow dual nationality and as such you won’t lose your pension!
Honestly. I though I was the only one who spoke bollocks.

Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
