Agent or lawyer for tourist visa to US
Agent or lawyer for tourist visa to US
Anyone know a good agent or lawyer in PP to assist a Khmer with an application for a tourist visa to visit the US?
Thanks
Thanks
Otis,
Anyone who speaks reasonable English can navigate the application process. The online form takes about 30 minutes to complete. You can save your progress if you need to pause to gather more of the info they are asking for....so if that is the case it may take an hour or so. Then you go to Acleda bank and pay the application fee, and schedule an interview. That is all there is to it.
Agents or attorneys may be of some benefit in coaching applicants up or preparing them for the interview.....but they charge a lot of money to provide that service.
In order to be approved for a tourist visa, an applicant must demonstrate ties to Cambodia that makes them likely to return. It is a good idea to compile as much documentation as possible and bring it to the interview. The Golden Rule in the interview is to never lie.
Best of luck.

My missus has been through the process twice. Refused both times. The last time, an actual white American male embassy worker told her not to bother with the tourist visa anymore. He said K-1 or K-3. He also told her that it was good she didn't use an agent. They can be spotted a mile away, and are usually denied.
I am sooooo very sorry if you can't understand or appreciate my sarcastic facetiousness.

Are there many stories of young Cambodian women getting tourist visas to visit the USA?
Follow my lame Twitter feed: @gavin_mac
Thanks for the advice, guys. BTW my gf is not exactly young. She's about 35. Does that matter?
Something else i could use some advice/help on. When i try to access the form DS-160 it asks to do a capcha and pick a code word. Then it sends an iD number but then loops back and refuses to give or present the DS-160 form. Anyone have experience with this. Will using some particular browser fix this?

My wife's little sister came to visit us last summer. She applied from South Korea and was finishing up her Masters degree there, so I don't know if that affects anything.gavinmac wrote:Are there many stories of young Cambodian women getting tourist visas to visit the USA?
We were very surprised she was approved.

I have known many Khmer women who have received tourist visas. It is not difficult if you meet the criteria. The Embassy is not there to stop legitimate applicants...but about 90% of what they hear each day is complete B.S.
MY PROBLEM:
When I try to access the form DS-160 it asks to do a capcha and pick a code word. Then it sends an ID number which arrives in good order. but then it loops back and refuses to give or present the DS-160 form at all. Instead it shows "session timed out" IMMEDIATELY.
I have windows 7. I tried it with both Chrome and Firefox. I updated both browsers. Same thing happened each time - about 10 times.
Anyone have any experience and advice w. this problem. I'm going off my nut.

Possibly just an early filter to catch unsuitable applicants.

Is DS 160 the one you must do online? I forgot. If not, print it out and fill it in by hand.otis wrote:MY PROBLEM:

I used Chrome browser, don't remember any problems like you are having. Good luck.
I'm sure you've already tried different computers and whatnot?

Otis,
I would recommend doing it yourself. Just be truthful about everything. If you are using a lawyer isn't going to help your cause.
They want to ensure that there is a reason for the person to return to Cambodia. If you are currently living here with her, then show that you both intend to return once the visa is used. Showing a lease or at least stating the lease period in a letter helps. Show her bank account information - and be truthful if the money in there is provided by yourself. The length of your relationship will matter. If she doesn't have a bank account then I think you'll really have difficulty getting a visa.
If she has a job that can't be proven, just state what it is - the embassy staff know that working in the market of a town means your not getting a pay stub with direct deposit. Clearly state who is paying for the trip and how . And I'd include a detailed itinerary.
So something like :
Sept 1-7 visiting my family in Texas
Sept 7-11 visiting my best friend in Maryland/visiting Washington DC
Sept 11-16 visiting Miami
Sept 16-23 Back with my family
Sept 24 returning to Cambodia
Do NOT exaggerate anything. If she owns a home in the province thats worth 14K, state that - but don't claim its worth 50. Don't lie about her income. Don't lie about your income. Just tell it like it is and be positive at the interview. If your not married, clearly state you aren't and will not be trying to get married once in the US.
I wrote a letter of support that included an itinerary, my income level, the reason for the trip, short outline of our relationship, and my personal commitment that the visa if issued would be honored (ie she would return). She showed her bank account statement, proof of house ownership (outright with no bank loan), and she was as positive as I could make her that day.........
And we had a nice trip!

From what I found out, the biggest thing that can help is owning land or even more so, a house and land. That acts as an "anchor" of sorts. They figure if you got a job plus some house and land, you'll likely be wanting to return to Cambodia.

She just got an interview appointment for June 7. Does it pay to check the system every few days to see is an EARLIER interview date is available to change to?
