Unlike all the Khmer businesses that dutifully paid all taxes, actually paid the service charge to employees, followed existing labor laws and so oncrazyjohn wrote:The many barang businesses who applied the 10% VAT and pocketed it have been found out. I think that this is called theft.

Whilst a lot of that is true, up to a point, recently my ex wanted to sell her massage salon. She was clearing around $600 a month, but the f******g selfish landlord in typical Khmer style decided to up the rent another $700 a month, if she sold. She kept scrupulous books that would have given confidence to a prospective buyer, but with another $700 rent pm, who’s going to buy? She had 12 months left on the lease, so she spat the dummy and told him to shove it where the sun don’t shine.ផោមក្លិនស្អុយ wrote:Many businesses fail due to:
Naivety.
Lack of knowledge of local market, language and culture.
Insufficient startup capital.
Bad business plans.
In summary, generally not being very clever. But it is rarely the business owners fault, they’ll generally have some story about being ripped off.
